Shopping list for 2013 track season

Race fairings? Slip-on wouldn't be enough... these things are designed/formed to fit over race exhaust without the fat CAT.... a cheaper solution would be to buy a Y-Pipe and get it welded or bolted on to the stock headers.

I bought an exhaust from MJS Performance. It's really the stock exhaust modified and welded as a race exhaust, eliminating all the CATs. It isn't super race performance but a cheap solution to a $1,000+ race system (I think around $300 for a 600cc). And they'll buy back your full stock exhaust for $80-something. They also sell the Y-pipe if you have someone good with cutting and welding.

But you'll need a power commander/bazazz if you don't already have it.

So maybe fairing modification would be cheaper :p

Yup I have a fiberglass race fairing but stock exhaust with huge CAT. Dave was going to give me a used exhaust but it didn't fit on the bike right. My buddy who sold me the bike said we can just mod out the part on the bottom that the fairing bolts onto and the bottom fairing should fit after that.

Just watch out when you load/unload, it might drag against the ramp when you do. And a suspension test to make sure there's enough straight line/vertical clearance when braking or on hard acceleration. Can't imagine it would drag that much, but never hurts to keep an eye on it.

The K6/K7 GSX-R's require no cutting or welding to get rid of the cat.
Any slip on for that bike will remove the cat.
And yes, the stock pipe is quite on the heavy side, something like 20 LBS?

Yup, at Competition Cycle we had the stock exaust off and the slip-on on and the stock back on with-in 30 minutes.

Thanks for the correction... I have an R6 which does require cutting/welding.

But either way the stock is a stupid amount of weight... mine was about 19 lbs and the replacement I bought was less than half of that.

^No worries man.

Raf, if you're not in a huge rush, I would shop over the winter for a used slip-on...
Check Wera, Kijiji, etc... They come up quite often and they're usually on the cheap side.

You should run the bike with a PC/Bazzaz, I'm not sure how well it will work without one since you're removing the cat.
I installed a PCV and Autotune and haven't had a problem.
Also look at getting the PAIR mod done, it will stop all the backfiring.

Thanks, I'll keep my eyes open. I have no intention of putting a lot of money into an exhaust. Wanna save my money for track days and tires:D

You might have some issues with heat from the cat damaging the belly pan.

Even if its not touching you may still have issues.

Ok good to know, so you thinking better idea to take off stock pipe and Cat and replace with slip-on?

Ideally ya. You could add some adhesive heat shield to to the inside of the belly pan too. Moose Racing makes some. Any shop can order it, its fairly cheap.

We'd be moding it to not touch.

my 08 gixxer 600 collecter touches the bottom fairing. Moose Racing heat shiled dos the job perfectly. Double layer it if theres physical contact. Royal Distributing had it in stock when i bought it.

FYI Rafiki:

If you ever to get a full system or would like a Dyno tune... find someone who knows how to tune using the Yosh Box (Ryan Gill does, was/is he at Pro6? Don't know for sure). But he can tune it using the Yosh Box and do an awesome job for you. It would be cheaper than spending the $400-$500 for a Bazazz or PC with Autotune (basically making changes on the ECU and don't need fuel management hardware). So if you ever find a deal on a Yoshimura system, that's a good cost effective way to get performance.
