I want to work on my lap times, so I hope your tips are really truthful.

And become really aerodynamic.

Boler Mtn in London. I really want to get to Hardwood, Kelso and Hidden Falls this summer. Didn't manage to last year.

I've never been to Boler. I heard it's fairly short for XC riding, how is it? I've been to Fanshawe a few times, but not for years. Last time I was there they were doing a bunch of cool expansions. I haven't been to Hardwood since 2004 either. Damn, 9 years already.

I cannot think of one logical reason for you to question the OP. If he says he did 1.20 then he did 1.20, whether he did 1.20, 1.40 or he's ever been to TMP at all. What's it got to do with you? Or is it that he had a bit of severe advice for TAFB? A poster you seem to have a soft spot for judging by previous PMs you've sent me on the subject.

And, to a certain extent, the OP is correct. TAFB seems to be spending an awful lot of (someones) money on tricking out his bike when he should be concentrating on learning to ride first. He's getting sound advice (that he doesn't deserve) and roundly ignoring it. If his ability to ride matched his ability to talk about riding then he'd have a Moto GP ride no doubt.

Well, actually, if you read the original post you will see that he didn't even say it was he (or anyone) who had accomplished this amazing feat, only that is was possible....and you have to admit that it is pretty unbelievable. A miracle almost. Wish I had been there to see it - that's some serious talent. I apologize for doubting it and am glad omnivore replied in such a civil manner.

I do have a "soft spot" for TAFB because I think it is amazing how much abuse he takes from a few people around here without ever responding in kind. He just shrugs it off, and continues to display his enthusiasm for the sport. I can't help but like the guy. Then again, he doesn't owe me any money :)

But I do agree with the basic point that someone (like me) lapping TMP in the high 1:20s needn't feel the need to throw money at their bike to get their times down. But I also respect the fact that, for many of us, modding the bike is part of the hobby and a very enjoyable part at that. I don't understand why some folks around here feel the need to tell novice or intermediate riders that they are "wasting" their money when they throw some new gizmo on the bike. Wasting according to whom? It's fun to do some wrenching on the bike and then see what if any effect it has on your times or even on how the bike feels on the track. We have the right to mod our bikes if we enjoy doing that, and it doesn't necessarily mean we are under any delusions about what it really takes to achieve a respectable lap time.

I doubt I will ever move up to red group, but I am going to continue having as much fun as anybody and futzing with the bike will always be a part of that. I don't try to tell anyone else what does or does not constitute a legitimate way to enjoy the sport.

It is short but i usually do two laps.

Fanshawe is ok. The technical side trails are what make it worth riding.

Perfect! Let me know when you plan to come and I can try to get a few of us locals together and we'll rip it up!

Yellowduck. I wasnt telling anyone how to enjoy the sport. Enjoy whatever you like....But its obvious TAFB is looking for improved laptimes. I was merely pointing out that no amount of go fast bits can match rider ability for improving laptimes. I didn't mention that it was me with the laptime I was talking about because it didn't matter who did it....just that it was possible on old junk so surely a new 160hp modern bike with radial brakes, fuel injection, sophisticated suspension etc could too. There's even been races where a fellow rider was so far back I couldn't see him...then 2 laps later he passed me and disappeared on his clapped out 96 cbr 600F3. After the race he and I were looking at his laptimes....1:16 was his best. I only admitted that I was speaking from personal experience because I was being called a liar.

I was faster on my 2005 GSX-R at Shannonville than my 2008 stupidbike... because if I threw it down the pavement, it'd just add another battle scar. So, the moral is: never underestimate a guy on an old F3... haha

Yep, i rode a stock gsxr at Mosport TD last year, the thing felt like a dream compared to my old lost era bike.
