Shopping list for 2013 track season

You just need to learn some throttle control.

its not that, its second gear through the whole track other then the two main straights, then blasting down the straight. kinda gets old after years of riding it.
i wasnt saying I couldnt handle the bike for the track :) just the bike loves tracks like boogie.
if i could afford two bikes id have a 600 for tmp and grand bend.

I have done Grand bend on a 600 and 1000 and I enjoyed the 1000 way more for some reason.... maybe because it had a quickshifter activated with my fingers and training wheels on the side that came down when you stopped :)

I find my 08 a lot of bike for smaller tracks like Shannonville. So easy to do warp speed... and 2nd gear turns it into a bucking bronco out of corners. But it's fun... in a twitchy-eyed kind of way.

Looking forward to the 600 for that kind of work, although my 05 1000 wasn't all that bad, despite "only" having about 15hp less than the 08.

I dont see what the problem is. If it is boring just go faster.

Of corse ! Not a fan of it with the r1 tho its too much bike for the small track
Yeah, but that's why I kinda like having the R1 at TMP! I love to wheelie out of turns 5, 6 and 12 (as referenced on the TMP map I made), and doing little power slides out of 12 too! :) One time (before I got my new Elka rear shock) I got on the throttle way too early coming out of 12, did a big slide but kept the throttle cranked to stop from highsiding, and as I came out of the corner and stood it up it gripped and threw it into a little wheelie, perfectly aimed down the straight so I rode it out. Was awesome, but a little scary, and figured it's probably not good for right side tire wear (TMP already murders the right side anyway), so didn't attempt to try it again :D

Eventually after I got a little faster I had to start running the interior in 3rd gear because I was hitting the rev limiter in a few places.

Can't wait to try a bigger track, where I can really stretch her legs! My new sprockets will give me a theoretical top speed of 305kph, so I'll have to see if it can actually get there ;)

You have an R1, ride the torque out some. And at Calabogie you can definitely max it out, if you can take corner 4 hard enough. Maybe Mosport, too... but the hill separates the strong from the REALLY strong, if you know what I mean.

LOL ive seen your vids.....dont take this the wrong way, but your not even ready for fast group, your track riding is still not "safe" . everything you just posted does nothing for lap times and learning how to become faster.
I like to use my track days for learning how to become a smoother faster rider. which is what I was saying when I said a 600 would be better for TMP for mastering how to handle and properly ride the bike.
I can pull 120's at TMP with the r1, and now with my suspension done and all the other crap, i should be able to improve :)

@ caboose483 your posts always make me laugh

I said fun, not fast ;) 1:20 is great, best I could pull off was 1:28 (or 1:26, can't remember, I'll have to check my logs)! Maybe with my new fork internals, proper setup and new rotors and pads I can shave a few seconds off. For sure I can be way more aggressive on the brakes, just had some strange problem under braking that would stop me from pushing very hard on them. And also not sure how hard I can push on my S20's :)

Oh, I know what you mean. I've seen vids, that hill for sure separates the men from the boys ;)

I've got a really aggressive throttle map loaded in my R1, so smooth throttle on the corner exits was a little tricky, especially for a track noob. I'll flash in a perfectly linear throttle map and see if it helps with my mid corner throttle maintenance as well as smoother roll on coming out.

got ya, glad you didnt take that the wrong way, words get lost in text.

The map on my 08 is actually pretty mild, there's lots of room for more aggression. If I went with short stacks and a more aggressive map, the bike would be virtually unridable as it currently makes nearly 190whp with its current setup (note that top end power and mid-RPM aggression are not really related but it shows you that the motor has real power). With litre bikes, the aggression can get in the way of good lap times... this was a major issue for the BMW teams in WSBK over the last few years.

And FYI, as you get faster through corners, and get your chassis set up right, the bike will smooth out a lot. Your biggest problem is that you're braking hard, turning slowly and accelerating hard again rather than getting a high speed flow going. Smooth is fast.

Can't say I've ever thought my 1000 was too much, might slap a busa motor in there instead.

I bought a steering stem stand today cause i didn't have one. Thinking really hard about sending my forks to John Sharrard.

Very related---I put in my 2 week notice today at the job I had for the last 4 1/2 years, which forced me to commute Hamilton <=> Toronto almost every single day. New job in Hamilton, same money, double the paid vacation. 10 minute commute. What an improvement, now I'll have so much more time for bike and track without hurting family time :)
