Shopping list for 2013 track season

back to the shopping list topic....

I installed my Brembo 4-piston calipers yesterday, and just ordered custom Spiegler lines, banjo bolts etc. A bit pricey ($178, including $39 shipping from Dayton), but I like the fact that I can clock the end fittings to suit. My brother and I also installed the Q2s over Xmas.

Trying not to leave everything until April this year!

Leaving it til April is half the fun! Trailer buried now so April it is!

I don't start til June either so all good.

Some of us will be digging our trailers out mid Feb, hon.

btw, Happy New Year to you and yours. Have a groovy'un.

What do you guys think of something like this?

I can get one at a wholesale price, would it be practical?

Dunno about practical, as now you have another motor to look after as opposed to a trailer. However one of the racers I know uses one and it works for him.

Loads of space but loads of gas too....

Fiery-perfect, I'll know who is handy with a shovel if I decide to tag along!

Those are good but assume you already have a bike. Here's a related article along the lines I was thinking. It's a bit light, and could use more content, but a good reference point, I think: http://www.doctordanger.com/motorbikeroad/buy_roadbike.htm

And a less related but FAR more comprehensive article (11 parts!) mostly related to racing but that could be of interest to people interested in the entire process of getting a race license, prepping a bike, protective gear, etc. I think a lot of the advice could be transferable to track day riders. Takes until Part 5 to get to race bike mods, but still a good read to see what some people do, or what the previous owner may have gone through (scroll to the bottom of the page for links to the other sections)

The second article is a great read! Thanks!

I ordered Spiegler lines from BluestreakRacing, but just for the front (i don't use the rear anyway..). Front and rear with banjo bolts included seems about the same price, but shipping was free, lol

Back to topic---all I need is Bickle warmers and Brembo master, and I'll be all set. Something tells me I might get at least half of this completed at the bike show..

If it is Diesel i would go for it, and plus you will have plenty of room on the back.

Cube van for track days? Certainly do-able, but few people actually do it.

If you already need and have the cube van for your business or something of that sort, that's one thing, but to buy a cube van solely for doing track days, gets expensive. You can't really use a cube van as a daily driver (well, you COULD, but the suckage factor is pretty high), it's another vehicle to insure, and they're terrible on fuel. A gas one will use at least 25 L/100 km, a diesel might use 20 if you are lucky, and that's if you putter along slowly. Toronto to Grand Bend and back will be nearly $200 every time just in fuel for the tow vehicle. Toronto to Bogie and back will be over $300 just in tow-vehicle fuel.

A box trailer or an open trailer towed behind some other vehicle (generally your daily driver) is the most common way to get yourself and your bike to a track day and back. I tow my bike on an open trailer behind a diesel Jetta. 8 L/100 km when towing and that's if I do 120.

I have done them all
#1 Car pulling open trailer
#2 Cargo van
#3 Pick Up w open trailer
#4 Pick Up with slide in camper and open trailer
#5 Cube Van
#6 Diesel converted handicap bus
#7 Diesel bus pulling camper
#8 Pick up with covered trailer
#9 Motorhome with covered trailer
Currently Diesel dualie with covered trailer
Looking for biggass fifth wheel toyhauler for my dualie

Best overall ratio fuel/cargo/camping had to be the diesel handicap conversion. Bought it from a bus company with 60K on it for three grand used it for a couple year and sold it for 3500. It went through two other racers before being retired.

Quickshifter ordered and on the way! I'm going to save myself from the cold garage and do all my installs in March/April.

Bought and need to install:
Quickshifter
Spark Plugs
Air Filter
Forks/Shock (after service.... new springs, piston kit, race mods)
Repainted body-work

Same here. I have three times more wheels than I do (race/track) bikes.

I'm even considering getting a 3rd set....... practice, qualify/race, and rain. Then the future-planned 4th set will separate the qualify and race set :p

Right now it's just slicks and rains

I have 2 sets, one for the start of the race and one for a pit stop 1/2 way through. Damn soft tires :)

Have fun finding a reasonably priced front wheel for that bike...I went a year looking for one and never getting one before I sold that race bike
