Roll Call: Calabogie August 6th & 7th

No, Shannonville is easier on the FRONT tire. The corner speeds at Calabogie are way higher and lots more braking, the surface is so much better you can carry much better speed without worry of bumps throwing you off your line.

Although, with the NTECs, I feel the beginnings of some washboarding through Temptation.

For sure , temptation has very peculiar washboard when you blow it wide and swing back in, lots of front load but traction like crazy. Crest of hill at 16 , one tiny bop in the seat as well, that wasn't there 2 yrs ago. Heavy braking does not help lap times at bogie, it has nothing in common with shanny or tmp , it's not a point and shoot track. Smooth soft squeezes on brakes and throttle makes you fly. My front ntec is 10 days old....I think I'll change it just cause.

Er... yes and no. I was getting 13,000 RPM in sixth on the back straight, and braking conservatively at the 2nd marker... on a real tear I brake after the first marker when you're headed downhill (LOTS of black marks from bikes in that spot). I had to bleed the brakes on the 05 every second session as I'm less concerned with throwing that bike down the track, seeing as how it owes me nothing at this point. Ferodo XRACs aren't up to it, the thick CP211 pads on the 08 fared far better and I braked a little more conservatively, as I said.

Also heavy braking going into 17, there's several good lines there but the one I was doing 2:11 on (and supposedly ran 2:09 on when I trailed Sharrard) was to aim directly at the apex of 17 out of 16 (left hand sweeper) and brake in a straight line really hard, more or less ignoring what the curbing looks like you should do.

I and lots of other people pass there all day long... it takes guts and shoving your instincts out of the way to do it. Same technique works for #2 and #11 but you gotta brake like hell there too, if you want to take a corner on someone. There's so much space on this track!

P.S. there are a lot of slots open in green and yellow. Looks like a fast crowd is showing up this time, with 17 red group riders registered.

While we're transitioning fro UK to US supplied NTECs aybe we should specify what version we're referring to. My first set of US NTECs lasted way less than my last set of UKs.

I sure aint fast but when a quebec racer at turn2 gave me the pointers that I'm talking about it cut 5 secs off my laptime. A 10 at bogie is crazy fast dude, I'm too old and fat for shananigans like that. I'm shooting for a 15 I'll be plenty happy with that.

True, I find the same thing, us feel good a grip great but don't last IMO. It's funny how the most expensive ones are best.

Oh, I won't be doing low 2:10s all day... I gotta work in the morning and all that... hah! Then again, who knows...

My NTECs have worn well, I did a full day at Shannonville and a full day on Calabogie with the 08, and I might get another day out of them, but more likely they'll be done by noon. The 05 has three track days on them and I'd say their best is over, but I'd do a track night at Fabi or something on them still. These are both medium NTECs and I ride at an "expert" level but am a long way from pro. :)

Expect another under your tent or maybe Sal's. But, no worries, there should still be lots of room since we won't be on the track at the same time!

Sure throw your bike under my tent for the days down there .. hell if you have tire warmers by than, you can plug into my generator too.

The countdown is on....anyone in to do a convoy on sun aft? Arrive before dark?

Well I won't be attending this one, I'll be doing shannonville instead. If I was rich I'd be doing them all but because I'm racing at shannonville the more seat time there the better.

I'll be there with the camper/hauler around 7pm, I figure. Maybe earlier, depends on how the wife-unit feels about it.

Im meeting Hyper near Brock/401 around 2ish Sunday.
Interested in joining up, let me know.

I defenitely would join you on Sunday but i can't. I'm at the beach with the family, so i have to leave on monday morning. I'll see you up there, see if you can set up your tent near the main building where i was last time.

Ferodo XRAC on my 10R with Castrol SRF fluid. 3 race weekends without having the bleed the brakes. There's something wrong with your brakes if you're bleeding them ever 2nd session.

I'm thinking the pads are getting thin. But the '05/6 GSX-R was known for fading brakes on track, so........

My track costs are sponsored by visa and MasterCard, they just don't know it yet.
