Road Biking - Anyone ?

I think tt bikes are the most comfortable things to ride ever. Just not if you have to climb with one.

These are my two road bikes I'll likely never ever part with (the black one for sure is being buried with me)

Cramerotti....well done sir. You don't see many of those around .

Thank you. I love that bike. The frame and fork were actually a gift from Mr. Cramerotti himself. I used to work for him when I was living in Calgary. It's a prototype and there's only two of them. I built it all myself, even the wheels (with his supervision). Full campy record right down to the headset. The other hangs on his office wall. I'll never forget him telling me if I put shitmano near his bike he'd break my kneecaps :lmao:

Campy record is the only group worthy of that bike. Putting shimano on that work of art would have ruined it.

Mine isn't as aggressive as some tri bikes. See handlebar height relative to seat hight. Not the most aero but comfortable and let's me get out of the saddle with ease. Climbing is Timmy's time to shine.

I see what you are saying.

Anyone up for a ride tomorrow night?

For the 14th year in a row, The Bike Joint will be presenting Toronto's third fastest ice event to rock your socks. Come out to see what is possible when you put people on bikes on ice.

question for somebody looking to start out what are the general thoughts on buying a first real road bike
Are you better off buying a quality higher end used bike or a quality entry level new bike? assuming any used bike is in reasonable repair of course.

Will the used bike ultimately be a better longer term investment?

With very few exception used will be a better value. Although finding a used bike that fits properly can be a tall order (the cheaper the bike was the easier this is as things like stems are very adjustable on cheap bikes and minimally adjustable on expensive bikes).

New in a shop a good "entry" 105 level bike isn't all that pricey but I agree with the used route. Sizing is the most important thing so make sure you know what you're getting into first. Doesn't hurt to look around some bicycle shops to get an idea.

There used to be a guy around who regularly turned cranks into dust. He had powerful legs.

He should look up Robert Forstemann. He doesn't turn cranks to dust and I'll guarantee he has more power in his legs. A lot of people don't realize cycling at a competitive level is more about technique than it is about mashing the pedals to hell.

Haven't seen many people with quads bigger than Forstemann

Check out the websites of GTA bicycle shops. Keep checking the sale/clearance/winter sale sections and you can find stupid deals.

I'm going the used route now. But there some aggressively priced new entry level bikes - they would also find the best fit for you.

Picked up this older Guru from a nice guy off Kijiji, seems true and well kept. Hoping it works well for me come spring. Still have to buy shoes and some shorts

Been riding single speed for 3 or 4 seasons, would like to step up to quality hybrid/cyclocross type bike with 3 speed internal hub. That's a hard combo to find. If anybody knows.......
