How long did it take you guys to get used to the road bike saddles?

Still not used to them, probably never will.

Good shorts help. Also the harder it is, the better it feels over long distance. It's going to suck for a while though and there's not much you can do to make it go away

Gf is going to lend me her training. Plus a bike fit will hopefully help.

But the saddle is odd. I used to standing.

You just wait.... a few days or weeks in you're going to feel pain in places you don't even know you have yet lol. What saddle do you have? Take a pic??

Good shorts are mandatory. You'll find the sore spot when you shower (trust me).

Next thing I need are
- shoes
- bike shorts - any reccomdations ?

I'm going to check out a bike shop in my area soon too

Shoes try on everything possible. Sidi, Nike, Northwave, shimano etc are all comfy to me. Shoes are like a lid for the motorcycle, find what fits you best and go with it.

Shorts I've only ever had nike, assos or campy. All are great and I've had many 8 hour days in them. Hincapie and santini are supposed to be good too.

I will try to get some pics...

It's some sort of a specialized...it hurts between my legs under the butt..

Try one of these. Comfy as hell.

3 pair of Sidis, a pair of Diadoras, and a pair of Looks. 90% of the time I wear the Sidis. They make the best platform bar none.....if they fit you. As far as shorts go, there's Pearl Izumi, and everything else. Like most other things, you get what you pay for.

P.s. A saddle is a very personal thing. Everyone is different. My first road bike I must have seriously tried them all to find what worked best. Finding someone to fit you who actually knows what they're doing will help you a lot.

I ride with one of these and love it

Once you get used to them they're great. Padded seats make me cringe. I couldn't spend more than 20 minutes on one.

Think of it in terms of friction. The padding is in the shorts for a reason. Softer the seat the more it "squishes". Many of today's saddle designs are narrower and thinner. Makes pedaling more efficient and less stuff to rub you the wrong way. Capiche?

Also the harder it is, the better it feels
That's what she said....

So my sis went to the Milton velodrome and apparently it's 8 one hour sessions to get certified which takes 4 weeks minimum. I might check it out this year but probably not til fall as my arm is screwed now and I probably shouldn't be putting that much weight on it.

Track is another animal entirely. I think it looks like a riot. It's the can't stop pedalling/no brakes part that frightens me :D
