But the way the Apple-itsi are wailing and moaning and rending their clothes, you'd think the Messiah has died.
Careful..you're blaspheming..

Please, don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel.
so, what was it like in the boardrooms?
Steve Jobs was the poster boy for greedy, egomaniacal, scheming CEOs, whose true genius lay in marketing unnecessary gizmos to naive, gullible people who somehow thought that Apple was a "nice" company. He carefully cultivated the image of the nerdy hipster and all the nerdy hipsters fell in line. Meanwhile, he collected his billions, pulled boardroom moves that would have made Machiavelli jealous and crushed opposition, even if it took years.
On a human level, it's a shame he died, as it is when most people die. But the way the Apple-itsi are wailing and moaning and rending their clothes, you'd think the Messiah has died.
Ya but the difference between him and other entrepeneur types is that he managed to do it better than everyone else.
Oh and I"m dreading going home and seeing all of the candle light vigils everywhere. *shudder*
I'm fully expecting Steve jobs to be resurrected in a couple days so that Apple can finally officially be recognized as a legitimate religion.

Wtf is with all these S Jobs threads? Is this guy up for a perma spot at the vatican or something?
I would say Bill Gates was better at peddling outdated technology..
Really? I would say, based on my 24 years in the industry, that Gates did far more to push performance in the personal computer industry than Jobs ever did. The O/S and software required more hardware performance, which resulted in hardware manufacturers producing faster product, which gave more headroom for software and the O/S to eat up, which then..... So much so that, ultimately, Jobs' company made the decision to start using the same hardware as Windows based PCs.
Ya he should be...cause he changed the way you communicate...like it or not...dude...
In what way did he change it?
You can't deny he changed the Music industry (iTunes), the way we communicate with mobile devices/Tablets (iPad) -> smartphones (iPhone) and the product that started it all, the iPod.
This forced competitors to start cranking out similar or better products. i.e. Look at RIM Before the iPhone was released and after.
I'm not an Apple fanboi nor do I own an iPad, iPhone, or use iTunes. But you can't deny that he had an effect on a lot of the technological changes, one way or another.
In what way did he change it?
I mentioned this in the other thread, but I for one don't believe we'd have any sort of tablet market right now if it wasn't for Jobs' iPad. While innovations in the mp3 market and superphone market may have eventually come around to what we have now, I don't think the same can be said for the tablet market. He pretty much created the market for that out of nothing.
Not in a "Jesus making wine out of water" kind of way...but more in a "Hey look at all these idiots buying up my crap...let me sell them more crap" kind of way.
Absolutely. My second computer was an Apple II+ in 1980. I've watched Apple for a long time and been programming for a long time! My question is, how did he change the way we communicate? Apple didn't invent the cell phone..or text messaging..or smart phones. So I'm honestly curious why people think he changed the way we communicate. Apple certainly produced some well-timed, well-done products. But technologically, I wouldn't call them ground-breaking.
Portable MP3 players preceded the iPod. Online filesharing was availble long before iTunes. We'd have tablets, we just might not have iPads. He was good at seeing a niche and marketing a product to be sure. But I'm not sure it was always original. Frankly, I find portable MP3 players a lot easier to use than an iPod. I like your last statement best.. That's how I feel about Bill Gates and Windows.. Haha!!
Two cancer cells walk into a bar, one turns to the other and says; "let's get jobs"
you don't have to invent something from scratch to change things up. How you use it in a different way or perspective, is enough. 10yrs ago, outside of comp sci/geek circles, touchscreens where something in movies and Star Trek. Now they're as commonplace as #2 pencils were for test taking.
