RIM Playbook. Limited sale... $200

IMO, the $300 savings to drive up sales also hurt RIM because a lot of people will perceive the PB as cheap and only sellable with a fire sale.

.

Its known that they are working on a 10" version, so they will probably keep dumping these current ones at this price, until they release "PlayBook 2", which will then go back to higher tier pricing?

They're waiting for this super chip for their BB10 phones, I can only guess the PB will get it too.

2012 will be make or break for these guys. At this point, their future doesnt look overly bright.

IMO they are selling them for cheap so they can get their product out to the customers who would normally not get a PB like me. This in turn will drive up their demand for publishers to create apps and help their future products.
Here is my example Just bought one from staples. I am a avid apple guy and never thought I would buy a bb product. I will be buy apps from them for sure. They just earned my money and kept their biggest competitors from getting my business.

I think this was a good move for their company. Get the people to buy their product to build their app store

RIM is one of the few corporations in the world that operates without debt. If anyone is in a position to pull it off it would be them. But I personally don't have a very good outlook on RIMs future. Too many screw ups in a very short period of time with no saving grace in sight.

Debt free is definitely good, but ... they are not cash juggernaut like Apple (80 bil.) or Microsoft. Apparently in Jun 2011, it was about 1 bil.. By the way things have gone since then, the amount surely shrunk. The clock is ticking, hopefully they will pull through.

guy uses PB as a motorcycle gps and downloads maps etc. Held in place with a RAM mount.

My Dad doesn't think so, he also got a PlayBook for Xmas and bridged it to his MacBook Pro earlier today with no problems. He's been in the living room pretty much ever since, playing with it and having a blast.

Connecting to a Macbook is not the same as bridging to a Blackberry for email.

Ohhhhh, dont you worrry......... the good ole "Bank of Canada" will rescue their butt's if need be.....

There is no way the cdn gov will let them sink that easily.

like they did with nortel?

Nortel didn't sink because of uncompetitiveness............but rather due to suspicious accounting mismanagment, and 3 billion missing dollars, and more.

RIM, is sinking fast like GM and Chrysler was, and hopefully, they can pull out of this thing on their own.

I don't understand why there's so much whining about email. So the PB doesn't come with its own email client... BFD. Is it really that inconvenient to use mail2web or hotmail/gmail/etc? I haven't had any issues doing it that way when I'm using wifi instead of the BB bridge.

All their products can interface with the BES ... except this one. The idea of the Playbook was for business, which it falls short of if it doesn't work with your existing infrastructure.

Not whining, why connect it to a Macbook?

Nortel failed because of bad strategic decisions, the missing money came after as a logical side effect. What do you think has caused the abysmal 2011 fiscal year RIM has had so far? No different than Nortel in it's essence.

I know you will not like it, but RIM should drop the money pit called "Playbook" right now and focus solely on enterprise solutions and products. That's what has made them great ... but that likely has to happen under a new leadership, not the one who has lead them since they were the startup company.

It makes no sense to offer a bailout to a technological company like RIM. The sector moves so fast ... they need to do it on their own or just go belly up.
