Recent movies you saw - recommend or no

The recent movie kept pretty close to the book but if that's what you want, then the old SciFi (SyFy?) miniseries is better still. The 1984 version. "Weirding Modules"? SERIOUSLY?!

For my money you can't beat the effects in the most recent movie. Ornithopters that actually flap to fly? YUP?!

it's all about nostalgic memories... "Everything was better when I was young!!" - I've heard it many times from my grandpa when I was little :)

It has something to do with, but not everything. Movies become classics or cult classics because they left a lasting impression, or told the story very well. Just because something is newer doesn't always mean it's better. I think there is countless examples of that in cars and motorcycles.

sure, I'd agree there are definite classics out there for different reasons for different people... Like for me an absolute classic is first "Matrix" movie (watched it like 100 times), and the recent new one was completely rubbish - go figure if I have my own nostalgia for my first years in Canada or it's an objective truth :)

Some things were legitimately better. Have you every seen "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" from the '70s? Compare it to the 2008(?) remake of that series. They went grim-dark and it was terrible. The original Robotcop vs. the 2014 remake? The original was so good because it was socio-political satire, as much as anything else. But then you have the flipside. the 1984 "Dune" tried to turn the story into an '80s style action/adventure, when the source material is largely about political intrigue. The recent movie, which played like part 1 of 2, did homage to that. The 2000 SciFi (I think that they were still called that then) miniseries sort of split the difference and did pretty well at it, because they have a little more screen time to make it work.

Frank Grillo is awesome as a B movie actor, same as Scott Adkins. For those that love cheesy 80's action movies like me, those two make the modern equivalent.

I was going to reply about how I much I've hated every single movie I've seen starring Grillo, but then 2 nights ago I watched Boss Level and was amazed how much I liked it. I'm guessing it had more to do with better writing and directing than the acting. I mean, Schwarzenegger and Van Damme were never really good actors.

He's not mentioned at all.
Actually the way they play out the story is quite genuine, there is no sense of personal conflict just the objective of finding and saving the kids.

Absolutely! Most docudramas would have identified and played up some kind of villain for the viewer to root against.

This one was man vs nature, no manufactured drama required at all.

Enjoyed it a lot more than I initially expected to.

Was a fun watch but the plot holes were as big as the pot holes in scarborugh.

****Maybe spolers****

Magnet has enough power to pull a human 40ft through the air and a projectile completely out of its trajectory, but person can hold the weapon with a full magazine of the same projectiles without struggling to aim in the right direction..

People don't remember the events that happened when they interact with time traveller's but the main villains younger self for some reason remembers everything.

The a mans life work gets destroyed, completely changing his timeline but for some reason still dies the same way 3 yrs later.

I think that the villain's younger self was *told* everything by her older self.

And remember, in movies Glocks are "porcelain guns that can go right past metal detectors." (I don't remember if it was a Glock.)

Jamie from GoT does a good job in this verrrrrry unlikely true story.

Adam project was a bit uneven but overall worthwhile.

Good to see Mark Ruffalo back in harness on the Adam Project and loved him as The Hulk.
He went through a bad period after Dark Waters which unfortunately is a true story.

worth reading the extended comments.

Watched Spiderman No Way Home last night. It was good. Lagged in the 2nd act, picked up in the near the end. Ending itself was a little weird.
Forgot how great William Defoe was as the Green Goblin, also neat seeing the costume similar to the comics

I haven't watched it but this wouldn't be a plot hole.

There's a common theme (maybe theory?) in time travel where the outcome cannot be changed, even if the path does.
