The N300 speedo is supposed to be off by ~10% according to the N300 forum, but I haven't verified this myself yet. Gotta get on getting a phone mount...
That is full coverage as I have a loan on the bike. I have also had insurance for over 10 years on bikes with no incidents.
The sv is a great bike but also a pig on gas but the amount of spares available is amazing.
Personally I would get the r3, it's fun and sporty and if ridden properly can be as fast as you want it to be.
I gave up on big bikes purely because I was paying lots more for insurance and no being able to use the bike to its potential. And I have a track bike if I want to go fast (either a bandit 400, or borrowed gpz550 or 650 hawk, when the bandit is being a wench)
I get that lots of riders like the "roll on" ability of a bigger bike...but the r3 does just fine you just have to shift a lot more.
And remember an r3 doing 120kmh on the highway can easily overtake an r1 doing 110kmh....
And i should add...any monkey can twist a throttle in a straight line....and learning how to corner quickly on a little bike is a lot safer and easier at 65kmh vs 150kmh .

Also i know most tracks let you rent bikes, and you have to pay more for the use of the actual track, but if you bring your own bike, how much is it to use the track?

I mean if you think about it, you can't use any motorcycle to the max of its potential on public streets (or even close to the max realistically). Even a 125. But you can push smaller bikes harder before you start breaking laws and become a danger to yourself and others.
And I assume the R3 can overtake a R1 on the highway means with the speed limit at 100 km/h, it's not a matter of how much power you have that determines how fast you can go. It's a combination of power, confidence, ability, but ultimately how much you want to risk getting a ticket.

What I mean by that statement is that if I am paying $1100/year for a Bandit 650 (4cyl inline 4, 230kmh motorcycle) and I am only really ever using 50% of what the bike can do what am I paying for? The ability to do 200kmh? Who cares? The R3 can still go fast enough to get you a ticket and lose your licence, but it wont kill you insurance-wise. You can use more of the bike (banging through the gear from 1-6th shifting just before redline on a SV650 and youll be doing over 200kmh....I do the same thing on the R3 when I am merging lol) The R3 still wheelies, and stoppies easily, still can ride 2 up, and is just as comfy as any sport touring bike (Bandits, ER6Fs, CBR650F, etc...)
Most tracks DONT let you rent bikes. There are Organisations that will rent you a bike and gear yes.
A lapping day at Shannonville (and feel free to correct me if I am wrong) is $140 but you HAVE to bring your own gear and bike. And it gets you roughly 6-8 20min sessions on track)

What I meant by that is the average speed on the 401 is 110-120 and you wont be getting a ticket....so if an R1 is in the right lane doing 110kmh an r3 can easily over take it at 120 in the fast lane. In the real world 180hp 200mph missile is as useless as a screen door in a submarine the R3 can do everything the R1 can do in the real world, and get better gas mileage.
But you can probably get that same acceleration on the R3, the only difference is by the time you get into the powerband after revving the R1 to get that 'acceleration' your probably already on the radar of every cop in a 5km radius?
The R1 is a capable motorcycle, but I find that paying the extra in payments or insurance or tires or gas isnt worth it to me if I wont be able to use a 1/6th of what the bike can do on the street.
The R3 makes you feel like Rossi all the time (same as the old RZ350s making you feel like a GP racer) and you arn't going a ludicrous speed
Both bikes have their purposes, pick the one best suited to what YOU want.
I ride 2 up with the R3...im 240-245 depending on poo size, and my fiancee is 150-160ish and it carried us from Ottawa to Tremblant and back no problems.
Its far better than my RD350LC was...poor clutch.
Dont expect to set any land speed records but it is more than capable to do two up (the passenger pad is a tad, uncomfy though)

Ive always wanted to ride down to florida, solo, i wonder if its doable on the R3

The only problem is the lack of a decent windshield. Your neck and shoulders will get tired from the wind buffeting you around LONG before the R3 gets tired."
