Question for the males (it's about autos)

oh how i miss riding.

these threads are much needed fun. lol :lmao:

it's hobbies, ocd, personal comfort, pride, art and passion… and a mixture of some or all of those.

it can be cars, it can be cloths, house, mechanical pencils… anything.

I love cars and bikes. I also enjoy my Top Gear. certainly giggidy bums are nice too.

…oh how i miss riding. I look at bikes in garage every day. :(

I think the OP is talking about the ricers who buy a Civic and then drop equivalent money on it to get it to Acura performance levels.

Equivalent money? What's a full wood trim kit worth these days?

Come on folks, we're only halfway through the winter, gotta hold it together a little while longer

Are you kidding? The cabin fever induced ramblings are the best part about this place.

i thought a guy who owns motorcycles would get it...apparently not

I have a buddy who has over $50 grand tied up in bicycles and cycling stuff.
So be it.

Our society has become judgemental about people's homes, cars, and investments as a sign of affluence....but have lost sight of more important things like happiness, satisfaction, family etc.

You never hear anyone speaking highly of someone who is broke...... "Oh look, there's Angie......sure she doesn't own a car and has to rent a tiny apartment, but she has the best relationship with her siblings, volunteers at the soup kitchen, and sings in the church choir. She always has a huge smile and she must be very happy in her life"..........nope...doesn't happen.

I don't wash my car because it has no affect on how long it will last. I treat it like my baby because I spent $30k on it and I want to avoid spending another $30k any time soon. I freak about about dings and dents because those can lead to rust and getting pretty much any kind of body work done to clean up rust will cost at least a few hundred dollars. I freak out about interior damage because fixing a dashboard is a pain in the ***.

I don't spend a lot on go fast parts because insurance hates mods and I hate dealing with insurance. I'd rather not have to deal with the hassle of getting denied by insurance if something happens (which is why you have insurance) because I wasted some money on something that gets me, say, 300 hp instead of my already overkill 265 hp.

Was this a type-o? Do you or do you not believe washing has an effect on how long a car will last?

I don't think it makes a huge difference. A week later it rains and looks like I washed it, anyway. Rust protection makes a bigger difference, imo, and makes the car look dirty anyway.

I suppose a proper wax now and then is good for the paint. I do wash it occasionally but I'm not anal about it like people that wash their cars once a week. I'll admit that if it doesn't warm up and rain then rinsing the salt off now and then might be a good idea but it'll be covered again as soon as I leave the lot so why bother?

Last bike I sold I washed all of never. Just wiped it down with some rags now and then. Looked new when I sold it. Rust proofed that, too.

Theres really not much left for honda other than the "Si". S2k, Integra (DC2) and the nsx are pretty much part of history now.

It's just a hobby. But I would draw a line between gear heads and those who obsessively wash their cars. Someone can have both tendencies but the motive behind each is usually very different imo.

Your car is usually your second biggest purchase next to a house. Some people take better care of it than others, just like their houses. What about the guy that mowes/waters/fertileses his lawn every other day? What's his problem?

I wash, vaccume, clean the interior of my vehicles when they get dirty, I wash my dirtbike after every ride and the race bike before every weekend. I use my hard earned money to buy nice stuff and keep it that way.

I got soured on cages ever since I started riding. Since then, it's A-B... Basic PM to keep it running without complaining, keeping it clean and that's about it.

Wash my car so my d&g tie won't get all nasty when it's flapping against my b-pillar.
Also to keep my Himalayan-goat hair pants from getting salt-stains
and to keep my gal's versaceversaceversace dress from dragging in your poorness onto my white-liger-unicorn welcoming mat.

Riiiiiiggggghhhtt.

Or maybe I am too jealous to get it.
