Provincial politics

The real powers at be have already decided who will win. Look at Europe. They spent trillions and got nowhere. Then what happened? Austerity came in to save the bank and elites.
Guess what is going to happen here? Same thing. Get ready for austerity.

PC are going to win. It’s already been decided. Why do you think Tim Hudak looks so comfortable on camera?

You are mixing apples and oranges at will (comparing situation in Europe, representing many diverse countries and economies with one country of ours???) ..... and then try to tell us that Hudak looks comfortable on a camera??? Are you watching the same guy? He looks like a bad salesman to me who is trying to sell me a bad car for a low price with a promise of an upgrade once I pay it off. Not interested in that kind of a spiel ....

You might be right though and he might win. Don't expect though an austerity of European proportions, because if you are you will be disappointed. If you understood the social programmes Europe offers (and really cannot afford) you'd understand why major austerity is needed there.

Cool, so you are going to collect and dispose your own garbage, clean your own swear, maintain your own street and Hwy so you can go to work, pay for your own doctor when you get hurt or have an emergency? etc etc

Anyways, see you all at the voting centers today!

Actually, I would prefer all the things you mentioned.

At least then when they fail to pick up my garbage or give me a hassle about the separation, I could phone the company I contract to remove my waste and tell them they are fired -- same thing with sewers and road maintenance.

As for doctors -- the medical system in Ontario bites. Doctors only care to get your OHIP number so they can bill the province. You have to push them and push them to find out any answers, and then when you get the answers you have to wait months or years to have it dealt with. My 76 year old mother just got diagnosed with lung cancer from a spot her family doctor first saw a year ago but didn't feel the need for further tests. She is still playing the waiting game just to find out what they are going to try. She is better off flying to Korea, Singapore, Thailand, India, or a whole bunch of places where you can pay for top-rate medical care and have the issue solved fast -- not months or years later (or never due to death).

Except! what you are not realizing is that if you had to contract each one of those services individually, they will each cost you an arm and a leg and way more than 30 some percent of your salary, then you would wish you could pay taxes and not have to worry about it.

I come from a land of no tax, no ones does their income tax and there is hardly any tax on the sale of products and services. You take all your salary home but everything is a freaking mess... everything. Inflation is rampant, corruption of those companies is so high because the government (we the people) have no control.

I agree that in Canada we are over taxed, trust me I suffer from it as well but at no point do I wish to have a different system since I have lived "the other way" you are mentioning.

Why does it always have to be a Nationalized Canadian defending Canada's system?

I guess if you are born into a rich family, you will get ****** when daddy takes the Porsche away ;)

My point: Yes we should expect more from our government and yes we don't have to live like others do in **** holes in other parts of the world but, It really isn't that bad to want to eliminate government and institute a tax free and "pay as you go" system.

I've also lived the way I was suggesting. I spent 3.5 years living in Jakarta, Indonesia, and had no issues paying for my garbage to be taken away, my private medical service, my house to be cleaned, etc... of course Indonesia is much different than Canada in that the wages are only a fraction of here, so the services would have to cost more here, but I also make 4x or 5x as much as I did when I lived in Jakarta too.

The tough life of a greener. Do any of the Green supporters live in big houses made with concrete? (But they don't want a quarry) NIMBYs
By dumbing this down to a simple NIMBY statement it, i'm guessing you didn't follow the story of what they were planning (Canada's largest quarry of it's kind was to be 1/3 the size of Toronto and 1.5x as deep as Niagara Falls on prime farmland) or how the American hedge fund 'numbered' company lied as they bought up land (several irate farmers signed affidavits stating that they were told it was for potato farming- and would not have sold if they had known the truth- the quarry basically ****ed over their friends and family), and how they planned to pump 600 MILLION litres of water PER DAY! (in perpetuity) and how over a million people live downstream of the proposed pit could have potentially faced serious water issues (it wasn't just a bunch of dirty hippies speaking out against it). 150 -40 ton trucks per hr- 24 hrs/day- 7 days per week...property values plummet...and so on...People were ****** off!
This wasn't a case of NIMBY- this was a NIABY (not in anyone's backyard)!!!
Saying Green supporters shouldn't live in concrete houses because they are against the quarry is kind of like saying quarry 'supporters' shouldn't consume locally grown food. Hahaha.
Re one seat, if it's a tight minority situation an independent carries a lot of weight. That power can also make them look like a total whore if misapplied.
Whore vs dooshe-i'll take a green whore any day.
Anyway...Not going to type any more than this on the subject...Got real work, work to do.
I already voted Green this morning before coming in to the office.
My first post was simply to let others living in the Dufferin-Caledon area know that the Greens have a slim chance in our riding if they are unhappy with the status quo and were not going to vote or spoil/decline...that's all....

Re the quarry, my bad. based on too many NIMBY predecessors.

Went Green also.

I found this on facebook - I am even more afraid of the conservatives "a million jobs created through cuts", something does not compute in here

Some stuff there that is laughable. PC: Cut tax after budget balanced = Free beer, tomorrow.

NDP: Free dental for the poor. How about educating them so they can get better jobs and pay their own way? Of course, then they would start voting PC.

Lib: I am not a crook.

Free dental for poor KIDS.

I feel really terrible I am about to vote just so the PCs don't win. So, my only two options are libs and ndp. Both will piss money, so I might as well give the NDP a chance to blow money on some fairy tales, rather than what the libs wasted our money on.

Declined. This riding will go to the PCs. Always has. Always will. Regardless of how I usually have or would have voted had I, it was a better option to send the message. Hopefully more will as well.

Fairy tales usually have a happy ending. Everyone likes happy endings.

Voted NDP myself today but in this riding of Oshawa it was especially important due to projected job cuts here of 6000+ people/families.

This riding is currently one of the too close to call ridings. Provincial incumbent is PC.

I was rather surprised to find that they were prepared to handle it. No fumbling around.

Guess you haven't been paying attention...

Decline your ballot instead of giving your vote to fairy tales.

That won't do anything to protect me from PCs million jobs plan.

Isn't it a fact NDP has pulled head from sandbar and is trying to move to centre?

Declined.I was shocked that three coworkers today (average age twentyeight) had no idea of how or where to vote.Pathetic!

Unless the NDP are in close running for your riding, your vote counts for less than a declined ballot IMO

When those politicians see all these declined votes they are totally going to change their ways!

When those politicians see all these declined votes they are totally going to change their ways!

I don't know about anyone else but what I've been suggesting is if someone didn't feel that they could support any party and would otherwise just be sitting at home anyway, that person should get off his butt and participate by actually stating that there's no one who he can support.

I hate to have to dumb this down again, but here goes:

If you don't support any of the parties/platforms, the best course of action is to decline your ballot, as opposed to staying home or voting for a 'lesser evil'. You're simply voicing your displeasure with the available choices.

Perhaps someone, some day, will look at the stats and try to figure out why X number of voters felt they weren't being represented.
