People give up many years of their lives for less than a few million.

With your view we shouldnt even put criminals in jail because there might be a chance they are innocent.

so that makes it ok for the justice system to do it for them?

In the past I did. Now I'm on the fence. There are very specific and rare times that I wish it still existed, when there's absolutely no doubt and the crime is sufficiently heinous to warrant it. Those times are few and far between though, and you can't put the genie back in the bottle once you've hung him.

I would think about it in some specific instances.
1) A lifer kills a guard / inmate / because he has no fear of further punishment.
2) A person holding hostages kills the hostages and then throws the gun out and surrenders.
3) Politicians in general (Just kidding)

My biggest worry is it being the thin edge of the wedge.

so you would sit in jail for 20 years for a few million? interesting..

A few years for 20 million would get me thinking but at my age 20 years would be a life sentence.

In at 20ish and out at 40ish plus a few years to adjust:
1) Try to find a spouse in a picked over market
2) See your kids graduate high school as you start receiving Canada Pension
3) Don't live to see grandchildren
4) 20 years of social and job skills that never get to mature
5) 20 years of cynicism from living with the dregs of society

first off we need to have accumulating life sentences before we can have capital punishment.

I'm all for capital punishment if the crime occured in public, against a police officer, and the evidence is undeniable. Russel Williams comes to mind as a candidate for one.

while i agree with you on this one, Williams doesnt meet any of your requirements ( except undeniable )
He could have already been dead, but some idiot stopped his suicide attempt

According to the poll it looks that way

poll has nothing to do with your point, which is that the justice system should just make mistakes and hand out money. which is just a pile of garbage.

There is a difference between accepting that mistakes get made while seeking the right result, than taking a callous attitude to the fact that mistakes get made and just be like OH HERE IS SOME MONEY - (you).

In case you forgot, the justice system is a moral institution, not a profit making one.

maybe you should learn to read then.

So to those that dont think capital punishment is a good idea..

If this dumb **** that shot up those kids yesterday was captured alive, you dont think he deserves a swift death ?

It has nothing to do with what he deserves. Noticed how for half a day, the general public was circulating the name Ryan Lanza, instead of Adam Lanza?

Nah. Too easy.

Deserves? Maybe. Or we could lock him up and study him to find out what was mentally wrong with him in the hopes of helping others who may have the same mental problems.
