Paris Attack

I would like to see moderate Muslims (like the guy above) play a larger role in responding to the heinous actions of the Islamic fanatics. Pick a side.

Yeah one supposedly did right in this discussion he moderately said the murders were understandable

Do you understand what understand means? Like in this case if it is known that extreme Muslims will kill at the drop of a hat why is it so hard to understand they'll kill for offensive cartoons? Jesus. H. Christ

It is possible to understand, but condemn, at the same time.

Do you? Understanding is empathy and empathy is on the road and in the ballpark of agreement. If he said he condems but understands raping a baby would you still be arguing ?

Is this ok? Very public. Is it understandable for Muslims to kill people in Rio? Kill those who work at Christ The Redeemer? Kill the tourists?

Christ-the-Redeemer-Statue.jpg

caboose what is the muslim population of rio??? and is this targeted at muslims worldwide??? how so??

It's a picture that was available in worldwide media.

France was historically not a Muslim country, either. If there are Muslims living in France ... they made the choice to go there, and failing that, they made the choice to stay there. "When in Rome, do as the Romans" ... and expect to be treated as the Romans are ... Don't like it, go someplace else.

I am not religious ... the more I see of it, the more I am content with that choice. None of it makes ANY sense.

I just googled "understand" to make sure. I'm good. Then I googled "understandable" just to make sure. Still good.

"Raping a baby" is hyperbole.

Can you "understand" but condemn someone who kills another in a fit of rage?

Any thoughtful person would be able to.

Religon is just the excuse. Though it's been used since the begining of religon itself. Hell even before.

Don't you think religious extremism is the "reason" here? I see no other motivation. You do have to add in the feeling of persecution and oppression into the mix.

Just to be clear, do those satirical cartoons also spoof Judaism?

I think it's the tone or how we precieved, how he stated he "understands" that makes us think he is less negative about the killings.

The murders are not justified.. but are understandable. . Tolerance pushed too far

Not saying what they did is right or ok or good... saying it takes two to tango... they were the second of the pair not the first..

He did say "not justified" and "not right" and "not ok" and "not good" but understandable. If one understands what understand means this shouldn't be the stumbling block it's proven to be for some people.

I think it was his followup replies that set the tone.

Perhaps. After the post I quoted above people jumped on him including gtfo country so his responses might be understandable.

I'm okay with what shahfaisal said.

Sonny said that being "understanding" was too supportive.
