Over 22,000 speed tickets issued in TO for the month of April

A buddy had to let a techie go because he couldn't afford the insurance on the van the guy would be driving. maybe one of our insurance people could clarify. I thought insurers couldn't hit you on more than one vehicle.

Depending on the size of the company, from what I been told they average the rates among all your drivers to their advantage.

You have a couple of bad drivers over a couple hundred and they can and do act like your whole fleet is a risk.

Out of your list how many infractions are you guilty of?

When I first learnt to drive? Yah a few. After driving a company car for most of a decade? None.

Now I am just that annoying prick driving right on the speed limit that everyone wants to pass. 🤣

That's because you bought a failure EV and should have bought a Tesla. /s :D
If I could have justified it, I would have!

Actually the only ones I’m considering in my future are the Mustang (hate that name) and Bolt.

Although My buddy got a brand new GTI on a 3 year lease so I may try that out and buy his out at the end. Gorgeous.

Look at the new Korean e suvs. They look pretty dope!

Oakville has a project to reduce the speed limit in many 50 zones to 40 km/h and adding some speed cameras over the next few years.

Practicing for your senior years?

Now listen here you little pipsqueak! 🤣

I must say I find myself slowing down at times on the highway to squeeze more out of my EV range. But never below 110-115.

No speed cameras on the highway. And the OPP doesn't pull people over for doing 120km/h.

Suffice it to say, I'm doing 120km/h.

Will do! My primary is I need a minimum of 300km range in the cold. To and from the cottage on a charge will work for me. The Bolt will do that, but didn’t like the older gen when I tried it out.

Ya. The Hyundai looks to have a solar panel roof, probably on the top trim.

Edit; changed link, didn’t like the live review the other guys were doing.

These guys are Toronto reviewers.
What a useless circle jerk solar panels are on a car. I think the prius used to have them on top trim. The panels ran a circulation fan so the cabin didn't get so hot when parked. That's about all they are good for. You are probably generating 100 watts or less in the best case scenario. You probably get ~1 km of range for every two hours in direct sunlight (assuming no power was needed to run charging system and it was perfectly efficient so realistically probably get a few km per day).

I think it looks cool!
However, Hyundai says the vehicle's solar panel option can help extend range up to 1240 miles (2,000km) per year (around 3 miles per day) of additional range if it's driven in locations that see a healthy amount of sunny days per year.

Thanks. My numbers weren't far off. It all comes down to the price of the option and where you live/park. It is probably hard to pay more per km than charging your EV with built in solar panels but you score serious greenwashing points (even though it would be vastly more environmentally friendly to use a ground or roof mount panel where you park as the life span will be much longer and you aren't throwing out the embedded energy in the solar panel after a crash).

I like that they included ebike charging for ultimate eco-cred. You can make your vehicle heavier and less aerodynamic for more green points. This is quickly becoming almost as stupid as LEED where washing a dump truck gets you points.

Great. Now the commies in charge of the People’s Republic of Hamilton will see that, have a hold-my-beer moment, and introduce a bylaw requiring cars to have a flag man in front of them within city limits

Ever with the /s I'm not sure anyone outside the EV thread gets the joke. ;)

Anyhow, as for the speed camera thing...I'm perfectly good with it. East durham was turning into a bloody free for all with speeds. The cameras came...and they move them all over the place randomly.

It HAS dramatically reduced average speeds, and at least one of the local boy-racers in the neighborhood got such a steep fine that it's caused all of them to slow down once word got out.

I am OK with this. All of it. I don't buy the arguments that it's "just a cash grab" and that "it has no effect otherwise" when I live in an area where I've seen first hand the opposite proven true.

Speed went down, what about the accidents? Any change? 🤔

Don't you know everybody's a perfect driver, so they have nothing to worry about the speed traps. They are just upset about the obvious tax grab.

The fact that they do 15 over in a 40 school zone with flashing yellow lights and a speed indicator is irrelevant. They are still excellent drivers. 🤣
