Over 22,000 speed tickets issued in TO for the month of April

Got one in Etobicoke in the early 90's for five over.
The perfect storm of, timing the light he was stopped at, in a bone stock Integra GSR, using second gear, with the sunroof open, and blasting a hip hop cd my brother-in-law loaned us.
When he pulled me over, I'd gone by him so fast, I must have been speeding.
When it got to court he'd followed me at a constant speed and clocked me on his speedometer.
I can still remember his name.

You were in an integra. Case solved lol

Seriously? That has to be one of the dumbest ideas I've read on the net this month.

Drive a company car for a few years, and your driver's license and having a perfectly clean abstract is important. With these cameras you'll change your mind quickly.

Yes the tickets don't go on your abstract but your company knows about them. And they will in fact affect your employability.

Nothing dumb about it when you got an adaptive cruise control with lane assist. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Some companies dare to call this combination "autopilot".

Write the ticket anyway and confiscate their rides like they do with speeders.

Hit every one of them with no drivers license, insurance, registration and driving an illegal non-road vehicle. Plus incinerate the vehicle.

I thought cruise control was set up, so that you couldn't use it at non highway speeds. At low speeds where you're supposed to be paying attention for pedestrians and cyclists, it's downright dangerous. Most people doing this won't be covering the brake, and will be letting their mind wander . . . oh, shiny!!! Splat!

I hope I'm nowhere near you in the city when you use yours.

I don't use cruise control in the city "in traffic".

I use it on the stupid-low-speed-limit roads with next to no traffic that are invitations for cops (or speed cameras) to write tickets, when there's no one in front of me.

Works down to indicated 40 km/h, which is below 40 km/h in reality. I'll set it to indicated 47 or 48.

Google Maps thinks this is a 60-ahead and a 40-when-flashing area ... but that's what it used to be (which made sense), it's outdated. It's now 40 all the time. And the cops sit in a driveway over the top of that hill (across from a school) all the time. Cruise control ... "set". Google Maps

I know the limitations of the system on my vehicle and I don’t use it like Tesla-idiots from a rear seat. They are driver assist features, I am still behind a steering wheel paying full attention on road situation.

So don’t be scared - I gotcha.

Government needs to at least put questions like this on the G1 test, so that people are aware of what they're doing wrong.

Government needs to put a lot of questions on the G1.

Starting with...
  • On a multilane road cyclists can take the whole right lane. Move to the left lane to pass, you don't own the road.
  • At a cross walk you stop until pedestrians have completely crossed. Not try to squeeze by the moment they give you 6 inches of space.
  • A yield sign going onto an on ramp means you yield to pedestrians crossing not drive faster. It isn't bowling.
  • Your stupid "Baby on Board" sticker doesn't mean you can cut people off with impunity.
  • On a two lane road with a 30km/h speed limit, drive slowly behind construction equipment, he is doing that limit. Shooting into oncoming traffic because you want to do 50km/h to get to the full stop half a second quicker is pointless.
  • Creeping into the middle of an intersection is running the red.
  • U-Turns are illegal on city streets, do it in a left turn lane rather then trying to do a 6 point turn ob Bloor.
  • Tail lights go out replace them don't wait until all 3 are dead.
  • Bike lanes are not for stopping so you can grab a coffee.
  • If your car is having problem, and you are using your 4 way flashers, drive to a local shop not home going 120km/h on the 401.
  • At a 4 way full stop, trying to jump the queue infront of a truck driver is stupid. He cares less about his insurance and truck then you do.
And that is just what I saw since Monday morning that didn't seem to be covered when I got the M1. Oh well... We will never have German highways here.

A buddy had to let a techie go because he couldn't afford the insurance on the van the guy would be driving. maybe one of our insurance people could clarify. I thought insurers couldn't hit you on more than one vehicle.

I would love nothing more than increased difficulty of getting your license and higher enforcement. But it’s not going to happen.

Out of your list how many infractions are you guilty of? I know I’ve pretty much done a majority of the items you’ve identified and upset other drivers with my actions, on both bike and car.

We all think we’re better than the other drivers, but the math doesn’t add up. If majority think they’re good drivers….are they? Or is it the ‘I haven’t had an accident in X years so I’m a good driver’ mentality. Meanwhile causing 10 accidents by our actions in the process.

A big thing is the GTA has drivers from all around the world, while European countries have primarily Europeans. I remember our last trip to Poland….loved it. Beautiful toll highways, clipping along at 220kph and no issues. Listening to the CB for cops ahead…the drive took 9 hours to go almost cross country where back in the day it would’ve taken 14-16h. Only reason I slowed down is my wife asked me what the 220 meant on the gps, and lost her **** when I told her it was our speed. So 180 it was the rest of the while, while averaging 5L/100km on a turbo diesel BMW 118. Won’t be doing that again with 2 little ones in the back.

EDIT: IIRC the limit was 130 or 140…which was great. And good lane discipline from majority except that douche trucker that hopped into my lane while I was doing 150 and he 90.
