Ontario should make winter tires mandatory.

^ When? Toronto never looked like that.

Also those tires were studded.

I forgot. Toronto is the COTU.

Several times over the last 3 winters #6 between Breezy and Clapison's corners was exactly the same as the road in the video. Venture out waaaaay past Mavis some time.

And the 402 has never been shut down with hundreds of motorists stranded (some of whom drove around the 'road closed' signs)....... nope, never happened.........

LOL at the assumptions. I drive out in every major snow storm towards NY, VT or QC. I chase storms to ski in powder. For example I often take unassumed roads to get around 124 closures. I USE WINTER TIRES EVERY WINTER. That doesn't mean every one else should. While I definitely need them and use them, my mother who wont even drive in rains doesn't. Many people don't get out of the GTA. Some people would just end up with two 15 year old set of tires which would be more dangerous in any condition. Some would just get used bald winter tires. You can't fix cheap and stupid.

Last time I used summer performance tires in the winter was on my supra. "You know bro... you need high performance year round". While it was stupid, it taught me a lot about winter driving. Those lessons will save my *** a lot more than any law ever will.

I think the government should govern other things like improved driving training. Mandating winter tires will have those folks with said equiped vehicles blaming the tires and the government when they end up on a ditch because they still wiped out in snow and or ice. Just like some folks think ABS or AWD/4WD makes the vehicle they have drive better and safer. If you really want to prevent drivers from collisions and protect their safety, have them use public transportation. They don't even need to wear seat belts, they can txt or chat on the phone or eat or what ever. Even at the same time!?!? It's crazy!!!!!!

PSA.... Spring has sprung, you can take off your winters, and slap on your 3 season tires again. :smilebox:

Yup, take the winters off now and save the rubber. Of course it's not like winter tires are any different though, right naysayers? Lol.

It's February 19 and haven't crashed yet. Haven't even come close. Large margin of error. Drive to suit conditions, all season tires are fine. No mandatory winter tire law needed. If I skid upside down into ravine b4 winter is done I will edit this post.

It's spring. Did not crash. I am a great driver, clearly. Winter tires are good for other people:p

I will celebrate this achievement with submarine sandwich. Now.

Yeah, what do you know. Another winter in the city with all season and were all still alive, children and all.

You do realize Ontario is bigger than just Toronto? A lot of places still have snow and more forcast to come and greatly benefit from the use of snow tires.

No. Toronto is the center of the universe, a bubble of protection from the real world. :D

You do realize that's exactly why it doesn't make sense to make winter tires mandatory.

I think skid pad training included in drivers training/as a req for getting a drivers license would be a better idea. Snow tires can give you more traction yes be it doesn't keep you out of skids all together.

Now that I can agree with

Opening this debate again is silly, but you get that some of those urban condo dwellers may venture out beyond the 404, Vaughn mall or Dixie?
