Ontario should make winter tires mandatory.

Opening this debate again is silly, but you get that some of those urban condo dwellers may venture out beyond the 404, Vaughn mall or Dixie?

Why would they? Curry and coffee shops suck outside the GTA.

+1 As someone that spent half of their life north of the GTA I can attest to this. But because that half was well north of here I can also attest to the benefits of snow tires ;) It's also about temperature and higher than normal amounts of precipitation. And with the exception of an extra set of rims and (if you choose) to have them switched, the cost is negligible. I've lived here long enough to know that, generally, there are a lot of folks that are very, very challenged when it comes to driving even in good conditions. Forcing people to gear up is something I would support. I drive very little downtown and still head north quite often and switched to snows two weeks ago.

....I just can't wait till the first snowfall. Probably gonna call in sick that day.

It's always entertaining on the roads...and then seeing the lineups for winter tires...

Just glad I put mine on a week ago already.

About 5 times a year.

well, if your that fella that gets sideways on the offramp and ties up rushhour traffic so I sit on the QEW for an extra hr. then 5 time is enough to go find some tires.

Last year opening round of winter, some tool in a Porche boxer with 10" wide low sidewall tires jammed Bronte Rd at the lights on a 5% grade for 1/2 hr till he would let the rest of us push him out oif the way. 3cm of wet snow and he was parked.

Sounds like an open-and-shut case of assault with a deadly tire LOL

sounds like he needed to turn off the electronic assists and just peel out of there :D

I don't own a car. Some Autoshare cars have winter tires, but they are few and far between.

As others have mentioned, using common sense and adapting your driving to the conditions is not for everyone.

I'm all for making driving requirements much tougher, including reducing the max blood alcohol level.

Right on. Going from 0.5 to 0.4387 will save lives, kittens and rob ford's career.

How about banning cars with all season tires from being on the road ONLY when it snows?

Hopefully this will keep a good chunk of people off the road and I can blast in my panzer at mach schnell.

Never needed winter tires in my short driving career of 12 years. If I do get into an accident where it could've been prevented, I'd blame myself for not driving carefully according to condition rather than the tires

BTW it's a different reality in Quebec. Montreal winters are quite a bit harsher than here, and all-season tires were never meant to be used in that kind of climate.

I think the QC law makes total sense.

I have the distinct feeling that you're riding me.

Are you riding me?

A thread started by the tire lobby.

How about people learning to drive? Then we can save the children 12 months of the year.

From that list I would pass the Yoko. The yoko IG 20 is not that good on dry winter roads. Awesome on snow, but too much compromise on dry.
