Ontario should make winter tires mandatory.

Not everyone on all seasons is a moron driver in the winter.
I've made it just fine with mine in a 390hp RWD pickup. Sure, I've used the 4wd a few times but I understand it does nothing for slowing me down and very little for turning.
And with where I live, we get more snow more often, the roads don't get plowed the same and it's been colder than -20 most days. In December I was back home and was passing on the 401 while others with snows were in the ditch. Experience plays a lot in dealing with winter weather. Do winter tires work? Obviously, I know it makes a huge difference and will have a set next winter. Me having all seasons doesn't make me an idiot.
I see just as many horrible drivers with snows as I do with all seasons. There is an advanced winter driving course at TMP, more people should take that.
I think of you stay on summers and forked out the cash for those and keep them on in the winter you're asking for a bad day.

+100

Driving skill should be #1 on the list.

Most pick up truck all season tires are rated M+S, big difference between them and the all season "rain" tires that ppl chose to drive all year around with.

So many cars in the rhubarb patch this morning it was rediculous, and all wheel drive wont help you stop you crazy bighaired cow that parked up the ML350 benz on the concrete median in front of me, slow the F down and put down the phone, screaming into the phone wont straighten out the slide.

The look of "how the hell did that happen " is priceless, how'd it happen? you had wide tread low profiles that would stick like poop on a wool blanket in august, not so much today.

Lolz
I thought the ML is rear wheel drive?

Can you explain why owning snow tires is an additional expense?

Also, plenty of your fellow All Seasons tried to go to work and got stuck at a red light.

Enjoy not getting paid today ;-)

4 snow tires didn't come standard on my 2012 mazda 5. It's an aftermarket accessory, like floor mats, or heated mirrors.

His money and choice, not yours. Next time you go to the track, please spare yourself the additional expense and buy the cheapest POS tires because you only think terms of economics.

Uhm, he was answering a question about expense. Chill.

I am chill. Tone doesn't travel the internet I will say.

Just saying that when someone who rides all seasons because they don't think winter tires is worth the extra money, that's fine. Their choice. Those that choose to spend $ on winter rubber are obviously placing priority of safety > economics. It's about choice either way. This mandatory law business is BS.

No they're not.

They are consumables, like gas or oil. If the summer tires are on a shelf all winter you are not putting miles on them. Likewise for the snow tires during the summer.

Thinking long term.. You can put 20,000km/yr on all seasons and replace them after 4 years or you can split that between snows and all seasons and replace them after 8 years. Black steel wheels are cheap.
Remind me where the additional expense is??

After snowfall: Hmm, I should buy snows

After snow melts: Hmm, I should buy a system

And thus, my dilemma forever

I'm of the opinion we do not get enough snow in the urban areas of Southern Ontario to justify the expense. On freak days like today, I let the plows do their jobs and don't drive. What's the problem here?

First snow tires...next you'll be telling me I have to put the top up on my convertible.

It's 4pm, and the plow had just been down non important residential street. Excuse me, but I have a snow blower to play with, then off to the beer store. I'll continue this debate properly liquored.
