Occupy Bay street

Yes, you are all worthless POS junkies that need to find work instead of handouts.

They've been saying that to unemployed people during the Great Depression.. "Get a job, you bum!" Because there were plenty of jobs to be had  Our economy is still semi-ok, but in Ontario, unemployment is getting into the 10% range. By the way, if you have a part time job with only 5 hours a week, you're "employed." In the economy the way we made it, there are many jobs where you can work 40 hours a week and still not be able to live on that. Don't even start on buying a home (even with a 40 year mortgage when they used to be in the 15-25 year range) To me, THAT is a crying shame.

Look at what we consider as being 'necessary' for everyday life today, compared to 1985.

That may be true but it doesn't take away that the % price increase of the basic necessities have outpaced the % of wage increase.

Now factor in that most families have two working parents, where it used to be just one.

Factor in that having 2 kids in childcare/daycare in Toronto costs almost $2800 a month.

This year I sold my motorcycle and downgraded to a scooter as it was just too damn expensive.

Given that we aren't even replacing ourselves, which is why we need immigration, people are no longer having those two kids on average.

Someone held a gun to your head?

Did I say that? Nope it was a choice.
Read the context it was given. Is the only option in our society to keep pace with rising costs of the necessities is to not breed? That is a sad statement on our societal values if that is the case.

I'd love to have more kids but my wife and I have decided on what we can afford and the quality of life we can provide.

Nope it was a choice.

Exactly. It's obvious that wages were never going to outpace the costs of raising kids. Complaining about the costs involved after the fact is akin to me going out and buying a GT2 for a Sunday car, then complaining about the cost of replacing the ceramic/ceramic brakes a year later.

People used to do without, so that their kids could have what they need. That doesn't seem to happen anymore.

You don't see a problem with a society were children are considered a luxury that most shouldn't be able to afford?

That's not what YOU originally complained about. YOU complained about having to give up a LUXURY (your motorcycle) to cover the rising cost of daycare. Hmmmm, my father sold his motorcycle to cover the costs of raising his 2 kids too, and that was in the 50s. Funny how that works, eh?

You don't need a 2500sq-ft home for a family of 4 now do you?

There seems to be a lot of confusion between wants and needs.

I can't post something from Youtube at work but someone do a search for "Everythings Amazing But Nobody Is Happy" and post the link from the Conan show.

Watch that.. that about sums it up.

I was never complaining. I was responding to Rob talking about people wanting things not necessities. I gladly sell my things for necessities. My reference to the cost of daycare was about the increased costs for families as he was pointing out with both parents working people should have loads of extra income. I don't know where you got the idea that I was complaining. I am affording my family just fine but it does take a balance. I think we have gotten off track from my original post. My father sold his motorcycles in the 80's and I gladly make the same sacrifice of personal things to provide for my family.

I agree 100%. That is why I have a 1,500sqft house. More space is just more stuff to clean in my opinion. lol

Of course what appears to be totally missed with the entire occupy movement is the fact that China has way more control (or will have in short order) over what is happening in the US because they are the only ones willing to lend them money and they already have in their hands a huge portion of the US debt.

Expect them to start dictating how things are done (sort of like Germany and Greece). It is likely already happening (why the US does little about--other than saying please stop--lead in toys and intellectual property issues etc. when they have to do with China).

A lot of people don't understand that.

A lot of people need a 2500 sq-ft house and two fancy shiny vehicles.

If someone owns a vehicle worth more than $4000 (I think that is the $.. can't remember) and they apply for OSAP that value of that vehicle will decrease the amount of OSAP they receive. Makes sense to me. If a family owns a $400,000 home and drives an Escalade and a Harley Davidson F150.. why on earth should they be entitled to ***** about the cost of child care?

Trade in the two vehicles for a 1999 Caravan and a '95 Civic hatchback. Use the extra $80,000 you now have for you ****ing child care.

I hear ya. And that would be why I am still driving a 1999 CR-V with 360,000k on the odo.
