Next bike...

Come for a ride with me and decide for yourself ;-)
That made me laugh too:lmao:

Rodney! I dunno your experience, but having only 4000k behind you shoulders means you even did not get feelings of your bike. 4000k - you even never made an oil change yet :sleepy4:

If you can't keep with your buddies on 650R can be either:
a) you are riding like a turtle and no 1k bike will change nothing
OR
b) something on your bike doesn't work right
OR
c) your buddies firing up 200k/h which is just stupid for street riding, and there's no reason trying to follow them;)

you do your serious riding at night?
I actually give him credit for that, I couldn't do it... not with the weather we've been having the last couple of weeks.
Just not enjoying the ride at that point, too f***ing cold for me!

Thanks for all the recommendations, advice and the concern :) I don't plan on getting a faster bike just yet, but probably will next year.

I've only had the 650R for a few months, but I've already put 4000KM+ on it ;) So I love the bike and riding. I feel totally comfortable on it.

Here are my reasons for wanting a 1K bike:

- 2upping. The wife and I do it a fair amount and plan on doing it A LOT more in the future that added weight can slow the 650.
- Gearing. Having to switch gears so darn much. Especially 1st having to gear-up at 70KM and that's pushing it.
- Speed. Keeping up with my 1K buds ;) I'm not a speed demon, but when we push it from time to time it's nice to at least keep up. It's also nice if you need to pass in a hurry.
- Track. I'd like to get in to track at some point in the near future as well.
- And the fact I'd have a 1K bike would make me sleep better. LOL

Don't just look at the jump in CCs... Your ninja has about 70hp, a 1k SS bike has over 100 horses more than that.

A 1000cc Kawasaki Concours is what you're asking for.
It can take something like 650 pounds for two up, most of the other bikes you are discussing cannot and should not be doing the same.

Oh and it's way too early to get cocky after that short time riding.

You just have to ride in a hot company though :D

Is that the guys name, cause I didn't know it. There is a vid up from behind but it's so shaky.
Great read. Do you have a link to more info about the James Perrault crash? I searched and searched and couldn't find it!

Are you talking about the James Perrault crash that happened on the 401 back in the 1990s? Ah, back during the Finch & Weston days. Those were the days! Seeking out 1/4 mile stretches, running from the Po-Po, meeting back up in empty parking lots in industrial areas to regroup and peacock strut... :D

I saw James at Grand Bend. He looked really good!

/threadjack.

+++++++++++

Back to the subject! Rodney, in all seriousness, take your 650 to the track and take some classes on it. It's a capable bike. It's true what they say: it's not the bike, it's the rider. I'm on a CBR600RR and all the instructors on Ninja650s kicked my butt royally at Calabogie last summer. Why? Because they know what they're doing and I don't. Buying a liter bike because you think it will make you faster is a myth. Save your coin, take your bike to Calabogie next summer and have a blast on it. Learn some things. Trust me, you'll really enjoy it.

The Hypermotard is leaving and a GasGas is taking it's place.

It wasn't the guy who crashed in that thread, but people kept referencing him that he also crashed into someone on the straight away, so wanted to see/hear about that one too. Here is a better video from the crash bike in case you haven't seen it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibBQrR4J1Uc

Still waiting on the video from your crash Jamie...
How come you never posted it?

Court case is Nov 30th. If I don't go to jail I'll post it Dec 1st. If I do and get early release for good behaviour I'll post it April 1st, if not June 1st :)

Keep the money you want to spend on a new bike and put it toward riding lessons. Seriously. That's not a shot, and take your ego out of the decision. The 650r is more than capable (and yeah that's coming from a modded 1000cc rider).

+^ I agree.

Getting a litre bike typically will slowdown your learning curve, particularly if you are newish to riding.

Rodney, your best best is to list out your top 5 favourite bikes along with the price of the bike and insurance. You'll need to do this in a spreadsheet. Sort them by price, and also compute the price difference between each of the bikes. When looking at that price difference, don't think about the money in absolute terms, but think of what you could buy with it, be it riding classes, gear, etc. That should help you figure out what will give you the best pleasure for your buck.

If you dislike shifting, I think Honda VFR1200 has an auto transmission option and should satisfy your power craving and the comfortable 2-up requirement. It still allows you to shift if you want to but without a clutch.

If you really want a bike with a bit more power, consider the z750.

I agree, but according to my Insurance company (Jevco), ANYTHING Ducati will cost me a ***** load.

I got the opposite from my insurance co. (state farm)
my 05 zx10r costs $25 more a month than an 09 848.
Granted the 848 is a smaller displacement bike, but it costs
a whole lot more than my 10r

Yea, I'm open to suggestions. I'm thinking 750-1000. Not gonna make any quick decisions on my next bike because that one I'll probably keep for along time. Considering buying new, but gonna wait til next season.
