Next bike...

4000km? means nothing if all you do is straight lines. post up pics of your chicken strips.

the 650r can handle 2uping and tracking... if you're not riding it like a rockstar then you aren't coming close to rocking the bike.

as for shifting? seriously? buy a scooter or a dn1 so you don't have to shift

Come for a ride with me and decide for yourself ;-)

Lol, when do you really want to shift from first? 140? An R1 can do that ;) lol.

You're in Ajax, I'm in Whitby. We should ride some time :D

Aahahhahaha

It's not only the fact that my buds have faster bikes, but 2upping with wife, gearing, track...

If you want more acceleration change your sprockets. Go for. -1/+2 that should help all around. And you don't want to track a 1K. Especially when you have never done track. Bad idea. Everything you say really makes me think you shouldn't even look at a liter bike. Ditch Your Friend

ducati hypermotard.
I made the mistake of test riding one with no intentions of buying one. A few months later i now own one.

^yes^

I have an SV1000S, trade off with my bud who has a Busa. It is very seldom you can pin the throttle, if you do you are going crazy speeds, or the front wheel is off the ground, and the OPP around my Hood are unforgiving. Insurance is pretty cheap on my bike, way more grunt from the V-twin then the I-4. I get an average of 4.9l/100km. I mainly use my bike for getting to work and back and it's better on fuel then my Jetta. next bike for me 696 or 796 Monster, and an old HD,something I can tinker with. Go for the 1k but in time you may be looking to down size. Have fun and stay safe.

You must have a diesel Jetta cause these twins are a bit thirsty. My G5 is about the same mileage as the SV and my wifes Mazda 3 is better.
And I'm curious why your front wheel isn't off the ground when you pin the SV? Mine would loop over backwards in 1st if you aren't careful and still goes vertical in 2nd. On the track only of course.

RedDogDarren , yes it would loop over backwards easily. Redline is about 107km/h in 1st. 2nd to 3rd at the top end of second will lift the front up easily too. Mileage is good, even with some extra go fast goodies.

lol puhhh-leeaze... you've only been riding a few months, don't worry you're still a total newb. You probably won't even realize this till next season.

I'm not sure what chicken strips have to do with buying a new bike?

Do chicken strips define how skilled a rider you are?

Here are my reasons for wanting a 1K bike:

- 2upping. The wife and I do it a fair amount and plan on doing it A LOT more in the future that added weight can slow the 650.
- Gearing. Having to switch gears so darn much. Especially 1st having to gear-up at 70KM and that's pushing it.
- Speed. Keeping up with my 1K buds ;) I'm not a speed demon, but when we push it from time to time it's nice to at least keep up. It's also nice if you need to pass in a hurry.
- Track. I'd like to get in to track at some point in the near future as well.
- And the fact I'd have a 1K bike would make me sleep better. LOL

Just my opinion but you sure don't care much for your wife if you want her to ride any distances and often on the back of a Supersport 1000.:lmao: Thinking of the 'comfort' level. Althought I know someone that made a nice looking and strong shortish backrest for on a 2007 CBR1000RR for his girl. Now there is LOVE!

Shifting gears goes with biking. That's what it is partly about. I have ridden with 650's and rode one once and thought is was just great. There will always be someone with a faster bike. Besides it is really easy to get into that 'lose your licence' area with a 1,000. Do a casual ramp up onto the 401 or some other highway and just shift: 1st, 2nd then 6th and you are passing cars already = potential ticket! 160 kph in 1st gear is possible. 210 in 2nd. No one really needs that. Well, maybe....if the front end stays low enough.

Can't argue with the sleep factor.:D

Good luck on your journey.

Biting my tongue...

As a marshal may I say you scare me...you planing on joining the beginner green group with that liter bike? or going right in to the red cause you have a fast bike and hold everyone up in the corners???

Here is a thread to help you understand a little about why people are giving you the advise they are...

Remember, I'm THINKING ABOUT a liter bike... that's a long way from actually buying one tomorrow. Dreaming.... but sometimes they come true ;)

lol Like I said biting my tongue...I was giving you the nice version. You mentioned several times that you were going to upgrade next season.
