Next bike...

Thanks for all the recommendations, advice and the concern :) I don't plan on getting a faster bike just yet, but probably will next year.

I've only had the 650R for a few months, but I've already put 4000KM+ on it ;) So I love the bike and riding. I feel totally comfortable on it.

Here are my reasons for wanting a 1K bike:

- 2upping. The wife and I do it a fair amount and plan on doing it A LOT more in the future that added weight can slow the 650.
- Gearing. Having to switch gears so darn much. Especially 1st having to gear-up at 70KM and that's pushing it.
- Speed. Keeping up with my 1K buds ;) I'm not a speed demon, but when we push it from time to time it's nice to at least keep up. It's also nice if you need to pass in a hurry.
- Track. I'd like to get in to track at some point in the near future as well.
- And the fact I'd have a 1K bike would make me sleep better. LOL

you could get a Monster 1100. it won't be surcharged with Jevco. i'm with them on a Monster 696

2upping is very comfortable on the full sized passenger seat. tons of torque

other good recommendations were street/speed triple and b-king

Maybe I need to get your broker, because mine said anything Ducati is now put into the super-sport bike category :/

I would ride one of those if I had a spare 35k lying around. Demo'd one of those at Open Road BMW. It was so comfortable, loved the rider position and throttle response. I liked the heated grips and the ability to toy with the different pre-programmed computer tuning for different rides.

certain nakeds like Suzuki's SV650 and Ducati's Monster series are not surcharged. Unless they have made a 2012 change (which i'm pretty sure hasn't been released yet), your broker is likely just misinformed

doesn't matter if v-twin isn't what you are looking for. for me it was a toss up between the street triple and the monster and it was a very tough choice

good luck in your decision :)

I say go for the fz1 too. Cheap insurance and you can be pretty ham fisted without getting yourself in trouble too easily. Pretty far off from a liter ss, but still a great bike with some cheap tweaks.

If your ride with TRFB camera's on please.
LOL! I got my new camera all set up, just need a new tank mount cause my old one was mashed bad in the crash!

The Ninja1000 gets great reviews.
That would be one of my next bikes.

If your insurer is classifies all Ducati's as SS's then you should move insurance companies and buy a used Monster S4R or a brand spanking new 2012 Ducati Streetfighter 848. Thet hypermotards are awesome too and given the long seat, might be a good bike to 2up with.

I like the Z1000's and a good used one shouldn't cost very much and insurance on that bike is very similar to an SV650/SV1000.

But, it sounds like your sort of in a "mine is bigger than yours" competition with you buddy which is probably the worst reason in the world to do anything.

It's not only the fact that my buds have faster bikes, but 2upping with wife, gearing, track...

I don't think 2 upping on a 650R is an issue. You're wife seemed petite in the videos you/her posted.
I saw a guy 2 upping on a 250... and the passenger was seriously overweight.

I've heard of people tracking their 650R's, so you have that part covered as well.

No matter what bike you get, you're always going to be playing with the gears.
Maybe not as often, but you're still shifting regularly.

As a poster already stated, your reasoning all leads to one thing... "mine is bigger than yours"
Get a Busa and call it a day.

Enlargement will hopefully happen next year ;-)

Why wait 'till next year!?... Put your 650R for sale and buy the 1 liter bike over the winter, you're bound to find a good deal...
Usually liter bikes are a tough sell because most people prefer a 600 on the street but if you look hard enough, you can get an amazing deal.
Good Luck!

Just take it easy man!

4000km? means nothing if all you do is straight lines. post up pics of your chicken strips.

the 650r can handle 2uping and tracking... if you're not riding it like a rockstar then you aren't coming close to rocking the bike.

as for shifting? seriously? buy a scooter or a dn1 so you don't have to shift
