New truck?

Still haven't read my first post have you? It will haul a track bike (about 355lb or a trials bike,142lb.) No mention of pulling a trailer.

No problem, it'll do it. Designed from the factory to haul 1 or 2 bikes, or an ATV.

Op you can't say a v6 ridgeline isn't a real truck when you're thinking of getting a inline 4 pick up.

The Eco-boost engine isnt that "awesome".

And ive heard zero issues about the tranny, but the engine and its components are on a different level.
Apparently the F-150's are famous for transmission issues but are known for good motors. What's wrong with yours? Just curious is all.

Lots of good input, thanks.I still don't like a "short box" truck like the 4 door models or the SUV style Ridgeline. There is a lot to be said for a 6 ft box.I really don't see why a 4 cyl truck is any less. There was a time not so long ago that most pickups had inline 6's i think. My budget is tight and fuel economy is a big money saver.

Wingboy - Have you ever driven a 4 cylinder truck?
Yes.It took longer to get up to highway speed. But was fine at speed and with my wimpy (4 wheel)driving style.I know that i would have to wait if stuck behind slower traffic in hilly terrain.I'm willing to be give up the accelleration that the 6 would give me.

Now, have you driven a 4 cylinder truck with a heavy load? Let's say with a bike in the box?

My trackbike weighs 355,and i only do a couple of weekends a year.My trials bike would spend a lot more time in there. But it weighs 142.I don't think it's a really big issue. But i will be the guy doing 100kph on the 401 in the right lane for an hour.

Fair enough, I had a little GMC Sonoma (2.2L) hated the damn thing and sold it after a few months of ownership. Absolutely hated it.

I tow an enclosed trailer with all my crap and someone else crap plus my bike with a CRV, handles it fine. I don't need to drive in the right lane and chug along at 100km/h either.

My buddy toes an Argo atv that weighs 900 pounds on his flat bed trailer (weighs 600 pounds) and gets between 7 and 7.5 l/100km with a 2012 VW Jetta TDI.

Why not? The car's rated for it. You can tow with the manual 6 speed transmission. With my DSG in my 2013 Jetta TDI I can't. Wish I got the 6 speed manual now haha. He's even towed a 2500 pound empty trailer before. The diesel creates a pretty good amount of low end torque.

He towed the argo from Kitchener to an argo event in the states about 4 hours each way. Didn't have an issue. He can cruise at 120 km/h without an issue.

That's incredible, can't be good for the car though?

It's perfectly fine for the car. Open trailers tow a lot nicer than enclosed. Wind resistance is a big issue at highway speed.

I put around 20,000 km on an open trailer weighing about 1,000 lb with my 1998 automatic 240,000 km Honda Accord that had never had the transmission fluid changed, ever.

Haven't driven it myself, but a buddy has one and it moves pretty quick!
Transmission issue is the first thing I read about when I was shopping around, and it was a few cases of it. Then hearing stories of a few motor issues including of one throwing a rod out the bottom and that was enough for me to say no.
