Thought I'd give my perspective on the show as someone new to motorcycling but has only taken the safety course so far, not yet having bought the bike or most of the gear (waiting until March or so to allow for test rides). Overall I enjoyed it. I got to sit on a lot of bikes that would take far longer to drive around to the different dealers, and probably more gas money than the $20 too. Also got to try on a bunch of different gear, understand how some of it fits.

Overall just put more practical experience to some extensive online research I've done already, and though I didn't end up buying anything, I have far more confidence in making the purchasing decisions when I do. Probably going to go to the next show too (February downtown I think?), maybe buy some things then. I can understand those that are tired of going to them though as I haven't gone to the autoshow in years for similar reasons that have been raised above.

A google search revealed it's 1219g for the Nexx. That's a good price but personally I don't bargain hunt when it comes to helmets, not knocking your purchase it looks like a decent helmet but to me it hasen't proven itself yet.

cool. good to know, thanks. 1219 is interesting. weight is most important factor after safety for me.

I had one crash with the first Kaos and was pleased with the helmet as well weight and noise reduction. landed right on my head. lol but i'd never considered Nexx. ill definitely check those out next time I'm shopping.

i was also pleased with HJC, good with weight. Ideally i wanted the BMW racer, but it was $1200. ;)

cheers.

I missed the show also due to working late nights, I was going to go today only if I had gotten up earlier but it also put a dampener on me because I was supposed to have my bike on display there this weekend but my parts weren't finished in time...I literally got all my pieces back on January 2nd and there was no time to put the bike together & get it up to the show...it also didn't help that I had to work at 7pm that evening!

The show was pretty sad in that it typically mirrors the state of motorcycling in Ontario. The lack of corporate participation was disturbing, it's like they aren't even going to try and sell bikes any more. KTM didn't even have a single street bike. A few dealers had the popular MT09s..but they purposely buried them so people could not sit on the bike or even look at it properly (because they know they will sell anyway). At least at Kawasaki they had lots of room to sit on the bikes and have a good look (Z10R...so much goodness, the cops at the Police booth were watching me and warming their ticketing pens).
Lots of insurance companies with pricey big booths (bigger than dealers), sponsoring the whole show: that's our money they are using for all that marketing and skanky high school dropouts handing you flyers (wash your hands). Tells me the big money in motorcycling in Ontario is insurance above all (they used to have tiny booths in the market).

I don't get the booths with the DJs (try and look cooler), the live interviews on stage looked like an afternoon at a mental asylum, as guys were talking into microphones and no one cares, or listens, seriously no one. The choppers are always there: un-ridable Easter eggs with just stupid designs, the more skulls, the better. The fashion show..same sh-t every year...for 2014, once again, the fashion is skanks in fringes and leather bustiers. Look around guys..you are all over 50 and no one cares about choppers any more, that stuff has remained exactly the same for 30 years or more. Thankfully, they were all in one room. The flipside was the cafe hipsters...just trying too hard to be cool (pipe wrap and no seats..ooo)

Fringes...Fringes everywhere...

I was there Friday, watching guys walk from distant parking in -25C with T-shirts and leather vests. Can't not look cool.

Still...for a freezing January, it's a fun way to spend a few hours. I admired the finish quality on the new Harleys, wishing they would put that effort into decent designs. The vintage area was cool, some bikes over 100 years old and a pristine GT750 Water Buffalo, a 82 Katana, Bimota and a RZ350LC. You get a lot of guys at booths who are volunteers and just into bikes, and talking about bikes. I recognized a few gaudy drag bikes that are perpetually on sale on Kijiji.
Zero, Brammo, Mission, Eric Buell, Aprilia, etc. didn't bother to show up to a show in a demographic of almost 6 million?

The show would work better if they split it into genres: racing/sport bike show, cruisers/Touring show, and they already have half a dozen chopper/tattoo shows, enough already. One thing that stood out to me, since I haven't been to this show in years, is how the average age is getting up there, and not many 18-25s. Watching 50-60 year old men stare at early 20s girls is creepy. Really creepy.

As for the $20...grow up, that's what a crap movie costs,so sit in your basement and eat costco hot pockets. Life is good.

well said. :eek:ccasion5:

AMAZIN :eek:ccasion5:

As for some of you, you're gonna complain about women dressed in a provocative way? Seriously? :lmao:
Perhaps you should have gone to church instead.

For everyone talking **** about the girls at the show feel free to post pictures of your girlfriend/wife...

We need RodneyBR around to post video of the show. He does such a good job and saves me from going.
I saw him there yesterday, I walked the other way

Show was alright, saw some bikes, talked to many known faces, Got the racing license renewed, talked to Ken (SOAR) Sunny & Drew (Trackside Cuts)and they gave me cookies, talked to Jimmy from Velocity and got to check out the heated Gloves, pretty awesome how they warm all around your fingers, if people are looking for good protection on a heated glove can't go wrong with Velocity. I also bought custom made ear plugs and the best part was not coming across any ex girlfriends for the first time.

Then went for chicken Wings with some friends

What else can you expect from a motorcycle show? $20 bucks well spent supporting the industry

Some customs I liked from the show.

Needed a new jacket for the upcoming season so I bought a Alpinestars Jaws perforated jacket from the GP bikes booth and took a friend that will be starting his first riding season this year. My friend saved about $400 buying his equipment at the show. Basically ended up paying what we would have paid online, but at least we won't be worried about sizing.

LOL it's way beyond that......every straight guy likes women, you can see attractive everywhere everyday....it's the motivation I question, the pandering to knuckledom headspace that's off putting......what does provocative mean? Am I supposed to get a boner? Is it ok if I excuse myself to toss off?

Not surprising at all. That's what the February show is all about.

KTM didn't even have a single street bike.

You didn't look hard enough, Ray. My neighbour and I each spent some time sitting on a 690 Duke.

A few dealers had the popular MT09s..but they purposely buried them so people could not sit on the bike or even look at it properly.

I had no trouble finding them. And we sat on them.

I don't get the booths with the DJs

Nor do I, but I'm old.

Indeed.

Are you suggesting the show allows people to sit on brand new Ducatis and fiddle around with the controls???

Absolutely. Sat on $25K Panigales without issue. Only one I saw they didn't you sitting on was the $32K(+) version.

Any info bout that rear tire for ducati. Poor thing got ripped due to the blistering cold, I think thats what she is glacing down at aswell as I was at her.

The owner talked to the Dunlop tech at the show about it.The -30 temp froze the tire and the old rubber broke when weight was put on it.Yes,Suzanne and Andrew and i were talking about it.She has an 1198 herself and was concerned.Andrew (her hubby) rides a Busa.

Posted earlier how I forgot to go back to "Gears Canada" to pick their show special on a pair of heated gloves. Called them and they said they would honour the show special. Good for them. It is no wonder I keep going back to them. Great customer service, great prices.

Thank you, Gears Canada.
