More Mosport new track spy shots (WHOLE LAYOUT)

Good thing they re-paved a third of Shannonville. And they fixed up the little spots that they didn't get right the first time, by the way.

Do you know when were they back to fix up the little spots? I was there a few times after the intitial re-paving and there were still some issues. Latest I was there was Sept 23rd. Just wondering if I was on it after the touch ups. Did they fix the bump going into 6? Smooth out the transition from new to old pavement out of 7? They did a great job addressing a number of spots and I was surprised that 6 wasn't addressed.

Thanks
T

Talking to Ken, Chris and Ralph, they told me that the paver would be there in early October. I haven't seen the track since, myself. But I have no reason to disbelieve them, especially since Ralph told me that the issues were the paver's mistakes and the track wouldn't be paying for the fixes.

Hopefully everything worked out as planned.

I can say that Shanny has never been on my list of desired tracks to go to because of the talk of how bad the surface is. If they are repaving and repairing it then it might be worth a look.

It's never been as bad as people make it out to be... but it is (still) rougher than a track like Calabogie. I think people's expectations are a bit high for Ontario tracks... having been on so many myself, I can tell you that some famous US tracks are at least as rough.

Shannonville is really good now that they've repaved it. I suggest you give it a try. Like Shaman say's, it's pretty tough to compare any surface to Calabogie, but SMP has a lot to offer in terms of safety, layout and now 1/3 resurfaced. I love Calabogie for it's layout and surface but hate the lack of run off. I love Mosport for it's fast, flowing corners and history but again, not a lot of run off. SMP's layout is a lot of fun(long track), surface is pretty good now and there's lots of run off in. I think it offers a really good "total package". Never riden GB and was on TMP years ago and didn't like it.

^^^I would agree with what Todd929 says. SMP does look like a safe track comparatively. I'm always up to try another track so I'll give it a look especially if some resurfacing has been done. I was so glad I did Mosport's big track this year as it was prolly the last time bikes would run it. I had heard that the concrete patches were something to be wary of but they were gone this year so it was a non issue. Bogie is awesome and we go every year but safety could be an issue. Never done GB either but done lots of days at TMP cause it's cheap and close. It can be fun but there are few areas for concern for safety and some rough spots.

Shannonville's partial repaving is A Good Thing, but it blows my mind why they didn't start paving a little sooner at long-track 7 (so that they got corner 6) and kept the machine running a little longer at long-track 12 (so that they got the second part of the chicane as well as the first).

On my bike, the chatter-bumps entering 6A are scary to the point of not really wanting to go through it at race pace, and the bump at the second part of the chicane is just as much of a suspension-upsetter as the one at the first part. The two worst spots on the track are the two spots that they missed ... unless something has changed with the fix-ups ... I haven't ridden there since the repaving.

Shannonville has the most abrasive pavement of all tracks I've been to, putting a knee down is like throwing an anchor. The most problematic corner for me was 4 A-B Long Track, the pavement there is too chewed up for the speed you can carry through there

Ah yes, the toilet bowl. Most people that complain about that corner don't understand it. ;)

Taken from the Pro6 fb page:

"Back from our 2nd tour of the new DDT track at CTMP. Paving is nearly complete so we were taken around for several laps and the track has a great feel! This track will be lots of fun for bikes and also safe."

If the provinces (probably the countries) premier track day provider can vouch for the track, I would say its good to go. Not that I wouldn't have been there without the endorsement, but good to hear their opinion.

Pro6 is likely looking at it as "safe for track days", as has been mentioned in the other thread. I think I'll check it out for myself before deciding on a track day there.

What's to understand, bad pavement at high speeds can land you on your butt? Almost highsided there holding constant throttle at the apex of 4B

I've heard people whine about this corner for almost 20 years. Some people appreciate exactly why that corner is how it is and how they can exploit it.

The real issue with that corner is that it can get rubber built up on the outside of it, so the uber-wide entry that a lot of people give to 4 often doesn't end up working. I say that as a guy who's been off 4 both in a car and on a bike.

can you illustrate the line you take coming out of 4b?

You should be tight enough to the turtle that you need to pick your knee up to keep from hitting it. Then stay just to the left of the tire rut. Gas.

Where did you get this info??? I've heard both Pro 6 and RC plan on having days on the big track as well as the new track.....
