More car tire(on a mc) fun

Read the darkside forum I posted above for Jamie.

i did and couldn't find one reason besides "it lasts longer". though maybe i missed it or you know something i dont

Lotsa dudes running car tires on big cruisers these days. I would not necessarily run them at the dragon but for superslabbing long distance who gives a damn really? You kids are anal. Clearly it works otherwise half these guys would be dead by now. Optimal? No... but theyre cheap and last a lot longer.

Who in their right mind runs tires till the cords are actually protruding from the carcass?

cheapy cheapy

I must admit of guilty of being cheap, but definitely not stupid!
That's why I would buy myself a set of winter tires even though I'm broke

It's a Scarborough thing, I fully get it. ;)

Each to their own really. Just find it a bit funny some folks will spend tens of thousands on a motorcycle, countless more on the best syn oil, change it at 2500 mile intervals or less, purchase more in shiny bits, cleaning supplies, lights, gear, or more things for their travel. They make sure said motorcycle is equiped from the factory with big wide 200 series tires to travel thousands of miles of flat roads in pursuit of their next destination. They drag their rear brake to keep said motorcylce stable with their signficant other aboard, maybe even towing a trailer or what not. Tire wears out at 8000 miles or so and a trip to the dealer means $300 to $500 less inheritance for the grand kids. So, stick a good quality, cheap automotive tire on their, pump up the psi to round off those square corners for a bit.

I certainly can not cast a stone at such head scratching antics. I ride how I want and when I want. If you can make it work, good for you. If I ever get to a point I'm riding and packing my bike like I do a car, I'm getting a convertable. Just my opinion. When I get to that point, I may very well change my opinion again. It's been known to happen after a few pints.

Cheers.

Im all ears. Please state the advantages...

Wear and cost. Not saying I get it, but then I don't even get cruisers to begin with so what hope is there that I'll understand darksiders? Maybe if I weighed 300lbs it would make more sense, dunno.

My point here is that motorcycle tires for my street bike are 25-year old technology"

I stopped reading right there. Spewing misinformation as gospel on his personal blog. Can't say I'm surprised, though.

Who knows? Maybe for a harley there's truth to that

I stopped reading here:

"As of this writing I have put about 42,000 miles (edit 12/5/07...over 100,000 miles now) on car-tires on my Valkyrie in a multitude of extreme conditions. High-speed highway, high-speed rain, wind, dirt/gravel, twisties, congested city, construction, and emergency stops. I'll take some heat for this, but there is NO downside for the experienced rider. The car tire has been superior in every condition. I've found the car-tire to be so far superior to the MC tire for the rear of the Valkyrie that there is no point in my pretending I'll ever go back to the MC tire."

This guy probably cant tell his brake from his clutch. Most can feel the difference between a top SS tire and a touring tire. While the SS tire is superior to the touring tire it's a reasonable compromise. Claiming a touring tire is superior in every condition compared to a SS tire is bull. How can someone claim a car tire superior in every condition??? It must be a HUGE compromise. I dont have beef with what people run, but I have beef with ridiculous claims. Should I even get in to tire profiles? Taller profiles make a huge difference in handling. Never mind a flat profile. Superior in every condition... LOL

There is no shortage of ridiculous claims out there.

Don't need to look far to see it for yourself, just go take a look at winter tire thread and you'll see.
I bet the same guy who wrote the above would also suggest that there is no difference between winter vs all season vs summer tires lol

Every condition which he encountered on his particular bike, through his particular experience.

He rides a Valkyrie that probably tips the scales at over 900lbs with his *** in the seat. Not to mention those exhausts hang about 6 inches off the ground.. so tell me, what kind of riding do you imagine this guy has done?

Clearly he speaks from experience, so it's hard to just dismiss everything he says, especially when you guys haven't tried it. (I haven't either)

No offense jamie but you're not exactly a representation of the average joe out there.
I think someone said I'm a few fries short of a happy meal! Wasn't sure if that was a compliment or not :)
