^^ You are definitively trying to paint a bad picture of him...IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT HE IS OR DOES....If you want to sleep at night for doing the right thing, then you have to do it. Then again, you've obviously come to the conclusion that the life he lives and how you see him justifies your blatant disregard for your surroundings while backing up and have already called it "even" in your head.
Is he trying to hose you? sounds like it.....tell him you want 3 quotes from 3 diff people and you will personally pay the shop to do it, not hand him $800. You can do the right thing but not be a sucker.

very good advice.
The price penalty will help you appreciate how lucky you were that no child was there when the rub happened. Seems a shame that someone there keeps inviting him over though.

My mother has some bizarro guilt thing. We (my 4 sisters and my dad) hate having to put up with it. On another note, my mom isn't speaking to me because I got a bike, but she did yell at me today asking for a cheque for $800 for this waste of skin. Unfortunately I inherited the guilt complex, hence the need for a check in logic.

If he is indeed trying to stiff you then he does not deserve the money... plus he's your cousin for god's sake. Unless my cousin had done a good damage to my car I would not ask her for money. And if he really is the person you are saying, I doubt he has a nice car that he has to worry that much.
In my opinion, spend the $800 on drugs, stash it on his car and call the cops!!!

What make vehicle does he drive? Adding to redliners good advice, talk to the dealer body shop to get an idea of what they would charge. That way he doesn't get three estimates from Rolls Royce, Lambo and Ferrari.
Your cousin gets away with what he does because people let him. Bullies don't scare me but people that tolerate them do. When someone threatens you call the police and have them charged. Your family then has to decide who to invite for dinner. You talk ballsy but I don't see you taking a stand.
BTW my wife took some paint off a co-workers car bumper, the repaint was $300.00 and everyone was happy.
Best way to deal with someone trying to nail you for cash like this, is to run it through insurance. They'll make him go through the estimates and all that. It's a good way to weed out people who don't have insurance.Okay fine. I will spill it. First of all, dudes my cousin, much older, dead beat, partially estranged and slightly wacko cousin. I backed out of my parents drive way and he had parked behind me and I didn't notice that he had and my back bumper ran along his back bumper. I got out and checked the damage and yeah I felt like a ****ing moron, but I have had my car ran into in the same fashion in the same driveway several times with the same looking damage and my brother in law buffed it out in 2minutes. The guy I hit is a menace on the road, brags about purposefully hitting other cars when they cut him off on the highway, drug abuser, stiffed my parents for a years rent when he lived there because he lost his job, has threatened me and my family on numerous occasions, abuses unemployment, the list goes on.
The dog thing happened last summer. My dog is a bit mental (terrier) and this cousin of mine would fly up the driveway like it was a race track and so whenever we would hear his car we would run out of the house and make sure no kids or animals were in the way. One day my dog was in the middle of the driveway. I ran out and called my dog, she limps from cruciate surgery and he sped up and veered towards her missing her by inches. I ripped him a new one when he got out of the car and he said basically too bad, if the dog is too stupid it doesn't deserve to live. Actually I am pretty sure I threatened to hit him with my car, oops.
He tells me he got a quote for the damage and he wants $800. By the way, he does body work and re builds cars from scratch.
I am just so ****** at this ****! Such a long history of crap. And now he is obviously being a dick about it. My natural instincts are to just do what is right, which regardless of how much a ****** someone is you pay for what you did. And it is not about the money. But I am fighting this urge tooth and nail
No paint came off. Just some whitish scuffs on silver paint. He could easily buff it out himself for free.
He tries to bully people all the time and he uses physicality to enforce it. My sisters and I don't put up with it in the least. Growing up raised by a guy who when you came home bloodied from being beaten up on your way home from school to a dad who laughed in your face and called you a wimp, you learn not to be afraid of anything. I just have yet to tell him what I am going to do about this.
