the guy is worth it especially when u look at what they pay the other deadbeats for doing nothing.. Tim Connolly he's making 5.5 this year for WHAT?????
John Michael Liles resigned for 3.5 a year
JEFF FINGER 3.5 IN the MINORS doesn't even play.
Lombardi 3.5 for taking a skate every night WTF??

Phaneuf 6.5 to appear brooding when asked questions... maybe he should try answering one without a single cliche...

n the list goesss onnnn..

Yes the list of over payees is looooong, but it still doesn't validate Grabovski's contract. Too long too much .... based on what? One good season.

When are people in Toronto going to wake up and realize that the Leafs aren't about winning games, they're about merchandizing?

People have been saying this for as long as I've been to Canada .... but I don't think it's really true. It's true that they sell a lot of merchandise to the blind sheep and it's also true that most people showing up for the 40 something home games and very little to do with real fans. When someone comes to visit on business that's where they ask to go or a local business suggests to them to go. Not because it's a good hockey, but because the tickets are pricey and it makes the guest feel good. This model simply doesn't promote accountability to fans ...

But to say that they don't want to win, no way. Surely they do .. why? Because they could charge the blind sheep and local businesses even more, a lot more. Why would they not want that, if bottom line is what they are after. You simply cannot separate those two, yet people keep doing all the time ....

They are just not very good at doing both (winning and making good money) ...... btw not many teams are. Detroit and New York being probably the only two I can think of.

Don't WANT to win? I don't think I ever said that. I fully believe that the players want to win. They wouldn't be out there, if they weren't a competitive lot. The truth is that ownership doesn't have any pressing reason to put together a winning team, because they're getting what they want out of the one they have; profit.

I know this is an easy, simple answer..but I don't believe it's true.

I believe it, They will sign a big name just to have the big name there, It really doesn't matter what they give up or how out of their prime the player is as long as he is a big name in hockey.

I believe it too. It's what happens when businessmen are in charge of a sports franchise, rather than enthusiasts; they look at money out vs. money in, then maximize the pay-off.

That's a very generalized statement! :-) What would throwing more money at the team do? They have a salary cap..

On the bright side of things the Leafs actually have a 1st round pick this year.

And yet the devoted fans throw money at them. What motivation does the team and management have to get their act together, when the fans come stumbling in like zombies with the big bucks to pay for thier million dollar lives.

Yes they suck big time, keep serving up the dollars it will change (insert sarcasm).

I don't think people continuing to spend money is anything more than a trivial contribution to how poorly the team is performing. There are many factors..money isn't the primary one..
