Local Auto Thefts

Because having a gun for "self defense" is a fallacy.
You are 100 times more likely to shoot yourself or a family member than use the gun for "defense"
The chances of gun suicide, the biggest number of gun deaths world wide, in your home go up by 1,000%
The largest cause of death of children in the US is gun shots, a lot of 'em when the kid finds Dad's gun.
There's more....

I read part of a study recently released, and they couldn't find ONE instance of a woman stopping a rape with a gun in the last 10 yrs. in the US. I don't remember the numbers for gun preventing crimes, but I do remember that you are something like 10,000% more likely to injure yourself with your gun than stop a crime.
For each crime a gun prevents, there are huge number of crimes committed with a gun.

... and being a conscientious Canadian gun owner: Are you going to ask the intruder to hold on sec there bud, while I open my gun safe to grab my Glock?.... no, no just a sec, the bullets are in the kitchen... I'll be right with you....
... or have you ever tried swinging a AR around INSIDE the house?
Are you gonna start BLASTIN' with your kids in the house?

WHY? Because SMART people have thought about it and wrote laws. Come up with any real data that supports the idea of guns being "self defense" and they'll be glad to listen.
... You DO know that the "Wild West" and John Wayne types are 100% Hollywood and never happened. Gun reality is the streets of Chicago. Highest "gun" murder rate in Canada? North West Territories... which has one of the highest rates per capita gun ownership in Canada... coincidence?
I agree with some of that... but not all of it. It stands to reason that if you have a gun you are infinitely more likely to have a gun related accident or suicide than if you dont. You got that one.

Increases suicide? No, perhaps guns are used more where guns are available, but the overall rates don't seem to change because of guns. Compare Ontario (9.6) to NY (7.9), NJ (7.1), IL (11.1) or any other prosperous US state filled with guns and the overall suicide rates are similar.

I lived in Florida, Texas, and California for 10+ years, all neighborhoods similar to where I live now. Almost everyone I knew (men) responsibly owned a gun, so I imagine they were in most of the homes in my communities. Gun crimes were marginally higher, and gun homicides the same as.

Now, where you are correct is when you get to the high crime, gang turf, and places with high poverty rates. A lot of bad guys kill a lot of bad guys, and a lot of bad guys live in rough areas. As it is in Canada

I'd also agree that a lot of kids are killed accidentally by guns. Again, this has a direct correlation to responsible ownership.

What arguments do you have for cars? Cars kill more people each year in Canada (4.7/100,000) than guns do in the (USA (4.1/100,000)

The NWT thing I'm sure has other factors but as tempting as gun defense is.....

1) More guns in the house ups the anti for criminals to carry.

2) The big problem with guns in the USA is they are thought of as the first resort, not the last.

3) Look up the number of sheets of drywall a Glock can penetrate.

OOOOH... you said "GLock"!

Cause that was one heck of a weird Google search result...
The first victim of a gun crime I know personally is in Canada (Newmarket). Happened to a close last week.

My buddy just had a large increase because his postal code (same street as @nobbie48) is high up in stolen car statistics.

Mini EV and Volvo V60. Not high risk cars, locked away in a car garage nightly…don’t matter to insurance… pay up.

Everyone gets screwed with these thefts regardless of what you drive. You can have a Volt as one of the least stolen cars out there and your premium goes up simply because you live where you do.

I worry about my mastiffs eating some miscreant that burglarizes my place.
Would rather take a bat to them myself.
The dogs would likely get put down for it and i would get a big bump in my homeowners insurance from the resulting lawsuit.
If i give them what they deserve i can game the criminal justice system just like a proper crook and walk away with barely a slap on wrist or even less.
Modern living LOL.

Read light cycle's post a few above yours.

Bingo.

Time to start checking your potential insurance premiums before making an offer?? 🤪

I have injured myself with a gun.. I got the flap of skin between my thumb and forefinger caught in a slide when I was a kid.. it hurt.

Bullets in the kitchen?
I can't say I have tried swinging an AR around inside a house.. in fact.. I can't recall ever trying to swing a rifle!?
I hope you don't own, or have access to guns!

I'm not going to say anything to an intruder... any conversation ended when they invaded my home.

I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t check insurance before pulling the trigger on bike or car!

This house was burguled before we moved here . Would be a lot harder for them this time . My Milton house had the garage looted and my Campbellville house was a B&E . I’m a lot more suspicious and security nuts than I was before .

Got that and still stand on my post.
If the crook/s have enough legs to make it outside and/or first responders arrive without a family member here to out the dogs the first responders will do their job to preserve human life with a poor result for the dogs.
