Local Auto Thefts

Top 10 list of stolen cars. Not sure why they would put the rankings like that as #1 and #2 stolen are #4 and #6 respectively.

Poorly worded but I suspect they are based on rank/percentage not absolute number. In absolute number normally trucks are in the lead. Most of the vehicles in that list are relatively low volume which makes it easy to get a high percentage stolen.

Jesus that pedestrian was lucky. First she didn't get hit by the truck reversing...then as she was running away she almost got squashed a second time.

Lotto ticket time.
At 0:05 someone appears to be exiting the drivers door. Were they being hijacked or??? And Yeah @ 0:15 good thing the pedestrians were agile. I guess Justin will fix the situation by passing a law that says pedestrians have to be able to sprint.

No just make a new law that says it's illegal to steal cars like Ontario just did. There should also be a law against running over people that would solve that problem as well.

Cbsa is proud of themselves for finding a record 1213 stolen vehicles. While that's better than nothing, it's probably about 10% of the stolen vehicles exported. Talk about a participation sticker.

Not exactly local...but this is a new technique:

And here I was questioning the tire locks every time I swap. They don't provide much security but hopefully enough that they go after somebody else.

It will be interesting to hear the repair quote. Good chance it's on the wrong side of 5k and could easily go above 10 depending on how much of a hit the fenders and oil pan took.

My local auto repair guy was relacing a wheel on a high end Audi - pranged a pot hole.
One wheel alone was $1400 - there's a lot of money to be made without having to haul away the whole car...?

Sort of. OEM wheels are obscenely expensive as they are mainly purchased one at a time by insurance companies. No sane person would pay anywhere near wholesale for oem wheels. Normally $100-200 each when they sell. For 1400 you can buy much much lighter and stronger aftermarket wheels.

EDIT:
She bought four spare tires to pick it up as tow trucks couldn't tow it? Wtf. Either find a competent driver (something like dollies onto a flatbed) or just buy four new wheels and tires and keep insurance out of it.

The Ram Ranchers must have $3-4000 tied up in wheels and tires, plus they're already jacked up ! ;)

Tire thief would have removed all the lug nuts before yanking the wheels off... not a farts chance in a wind storm you're pulling the wheels off a car with a Dodge ram PU. The wheels, when bolted on securely, are the best pulling points... they're pretty strong. If you have to pull a car sideways, you pull on the wheels.

... but it would toast the thread on the lugs, so the thing needs service AND wheels. CHEAPO OEM wheels are $750-800, tires $300, towing and adjusters and paper work, I could see this reaching $12-15,000 in the end... for 4 used tires.
WHAT A MAROON... and he did it in a dense neighbourhood, that OF COURSE someone had a Ring camera... crooks are getting stupider
Seems like a lot of work to prove you're an idiot

A battery powered impact gun would only take a minute or two but make a lot of noise.
Break all the nuts free by hand and spin then off quickly and quietly with the gun in less than a minute. If you're going with the yank method, have straps rigged prior to using the gun. Only a couple minutes from first strange noise to leaving.

For near no noise and fast, breaker bar and then a battery drill to remove the lug muts. All the noise will be rim removal...
This class of criminal could care less about creating a commotion they are the type that will sawzall off catalytic converters and that sounds like someone rolling a empty steel barrel down the street by kicking it.
They are counting on their very presence intimidating anyone from intervening and slow or nonexistent police response.

Straight to jail, then airport. Off you go a$$holes!

I'm ok if we don't waste money on a crininal trial. Hopefully there is enough evidence to use in immigration court. Send them back. Stamp the passports with "removed for criminal acts". Make them permanently inelgible to ever enter again. Let their home country deal with them if they want.

My understanding is the court system does NOT cross reference with the immigration system.

They should.
