Any 4wd/AWD car can have a great 0-60 time. Now take that Audi pig and have it turn/stop like a real sports car, that would be a feat. Corvette's aren't only about 0-60 times.

THIS! Also, 0-60 times are all well and good for drag racing but otherwise relatively meaningless. The so called "POS GM cars" tend to dominate road courses all over North America in relatively stock trim...

Yes it has.
12.1 @ 119mph.

Please show me where. GM has estimated that time, until it's in the hands of real people running the car that number is just BS.

Here is the fast list for LS2 vettes

Showroom Stock LS2 (2005 -2007)
12.215 @ 115.45 - LS1LT1 - 06 A6 - (1278)
12.235 @ 115.58 - 06C6FVR - 06 M6 Z51 - (333)
12.290 @ 114.29 - Proney - 07 M6 - (4500)
12.314 @ 114.82 - CYA Vett - 05 M6 F55 - (675)
12.422 @ 113.90 - DrRichie - 05 M6 Z51

Here is the fast list for LS3 vettes

Showroom Stock LS3 (2008 - 2013)
11.718 @ 119.94 - AndrewZPSU - 08 M6 - (2586)
11.806 @ 118.82 - Gmrulz - 08 A6 Z51, NPP - (3478)
11.974 @ 116.98 - Proney - 08 M6 Z51, NPP - (4652)
12.058 @ 122.05 - AndrewZPSU - 10 A6 NPP - (5051)
12.100 @ 115.19 - Odin - 09 A6 2.73 npp - (4325)
12.102 @ 117.60 - Dingrao - 08 A6 - (3561)

I expect the C7 will really run mid-high 11's which will equal the S8 and probably even beat it. And yes, the S8 will have a better 60 foot time cuz AWD.

And for the fun of it, here is the fast list for the Z06

The official GM acceleration specification for the quarter mile is:
2006-2012 (505 horsepower)…11.7 125

So what does that $56,950 buy you? Zero to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, sustained lateral g forces of 1.03g, 60-0 braking in 107 feet, 1/4 mile times of 12 seconds at 119 mph, and a 2:51.78 lap time around Virginia International Raceway's "Grand Course". By way of comparison, the 2011 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 circled the Grand Course in 2:58.48--and last year's Corvette Z06 accelerated to 60 mph in just one-tenth of a second less, at 3.7 seconds.

I don't care if it takes a half hr to run the 1/4 mile, I'm still ordering one as soon as they re-launch the "NCM" option.

The ONLY reason the S8 is so quick to 60 is AWD and most likely short gearing.

S8 has a 3.204 FD

Vette is 3.420 FD

So, close but actually a bit longer.

And "so poorly" ???

The S8 is a bit of an understeer car (what AWD isn't a push pig?) on a track but it's not poor by any stretch of the imagination. It's an Autobahn burner.

I think the point that got lost in the fanboy dick waving was that the Vettes time isn't all that impressive for a pure sports coupe since many heavier cars will take it's doors. That's all really. I'm sure it will do well at the Ring when they get around to running one.

So, your ignoring Motortrend numbers, why ????

Try that barge on a roll on and it'll be a different story for sure and when the first turn shows up then I'd be embarrassed to have my 2.5 ton barge handle so poorly compared to the likes of it's real competition the M5.

Audi's direct competitor to the M5 is the RS6, not the S8. Again, you don't seem to be able to grasp the part about it being first and foremost a luxury car (which happens to have a brutal 4.0L twin turbo 525hp/480 ft/lb motor shoehorned under the hood for S&Gs)

Prove me wrong.

So far I havent been able to find an article saying they are uncontrolable.....u know they have TC etc?

I also managed to not crash them when I have driven them.....including the Z06.

Now prove me wrong.

I think the point that's getting lost is that 0-60 time is not a great metric of "pure sports coupe". It is just one aspect. There are plenty of other measures where a purpose built performance car like a Corvette shines that are being overshadowed.

Sure, an all wheel drive, ultra sophisticated, powerful and expensive luxury car can have a great launch characteristic. But how does that translate into a great sportscar? How does it handle? Cornering grip? Balance? Brake fade? Track times? Running costs at the track? Overall cost?

Taking one metric out of context is a great observation, but says nothing meaningful about either car.

I ain't ignoring anything.

None of the car mags have done an "in-earnest" test yet. Both Motortrend and C&D have had test mules under strict GM observation. Until true production cars get into the hand of the people and they get run on the track none of C7 stats are worth much.

And I posted the Fast list for C6's and not only are the LS3's in the 11's, the Z06's are 11 flat and even one or 2 in the 10's. There is many a bike owned around this here forum that won't run that fast.........

School me please because I know nothing about cars......

Nevertheless, as I already stated the S8 is definitely a quick car to 60 and it is neat that cars can get there that fast. Most serious cars are now in the 3's but at a certain point you reach the limits of traction and there is diminishing returns. l to turn around and say Corvettes are embarrassing because they only go 0-60 in 3.9ish and therefore they are a dog is a ridiculous statement.

Same. What's the MSRP on an F1, nsx, Porsche, Ferrari, McLaren?!

Hate on the 'Vette all you want, it consistently gets comparable reviews to the super cars you list and costs one-third the price. Blind hatred for one and misplaced loyalty to another auto brand is simply ignorant.

Yes because 115,000 USD to start isn't comparable to a gtr, r8 etc. the vette doesn't even compare in terms of quality for your money either.

As a long time reader (over 25+ years) and reading various in-depth articles about how they test vehicles and invest in cutting edge data measuring equipment, I can assure you that Car and Driver takes accurate performance measurements very seriously and arguably do it better than any car mag on the planet.

not so impressive -----> 0-60 in 3.9 and the 1/4 in 12.2

Impressive -------> 1.08g's on the skidpad
