Ontario’s Police Services Act requires officers to be paid while suspended unless they are convicted of a crime.

Understandable to a degree. It would be very easy to set up an honest cop and hang him out to dry with false charges, delaying the trial until he went broke.

But the axe swings both ways. If a bad cop / defendant can keep the trial delayed he's on perpetual paid vacation. Can he do side gigs while suspended?

How much would it cost to fire an employee without cause if they had 14 years on the job?
Apparently they can own and run one or more bars, based on past performance, while suspended for years with pay.

I suppose the officer involved could be put on desk duty, no firearm and do get something for the tax dollar. However, could cases get thrown out later because evidence had passed through the hands of a felon?

Lemme guess.

Feels like we are slowly heading to 3rd world country levels of corruption and abuse of power here.

Doug Ford says police officers don’t need a degree. Should Ontarians worry?

the star "future cops could be 18-year fresh out of high school"
Get them while they're still young?

Cults always start them young. You want to make sure they don't have too much worldly experience or independent thought. Makes indoctrination much easier.

They can run for MPP so why not? Sarcasm font.

Does their juvenile drug dealing record stay hidden? Not thinking of anyone in specific. Same font.

Another tragedy near ottawa. Reports of shots fired so three cops go to investigate. All three get shot and one dies. Suspect in custody (no injuries mentioned). This seems to be happening often. Seems to be a deficiency in the training when teams of cops can get wiped out by a lone gunman a few times a year. Condolences to the officers friends and family and best wishes to the others in their recovery.

Sad. In the USA the assumption is everyone has a gun and approached as such. Here the assumption is more innocent.

Will traffic stops here, some day be made with weapons drawn?

When responding for a shots fired investigation, assuming a gun is present is a reasonable starting point.
I was talking to an elderly friend a week ago and in his younger days he said it was nothing to see a couple of kids walking along a country road with rifles, usually 22s, meant for plinking. It didn't raise an eyebrow.

Times have changed.

This raccoon problem would be a whole lot easier and faster if I was in the country. Subdivision life means no backstop I am happy with (not to mention the angry neighbours).

Probably illegal but....

The gun is legal. I don't have a hunting license so I'm not allowed to hunt. I'd have to check bylaws as to legality of shooting. I'd be less concerned with a ricochet from a pellet. The best options I have easily available are shotgun, 22 or high power crossbow. They all have too much energy for the space available.

What about a 22 short round

Sling shot and mothballs???

Or paintballs. Then you'd recognize it on the street if it ever came around again.

Caught a racoon running around the pool on the security cam a few mornings ago, we was trying to get to a duck that was swimming from one side to the other. I didn't realize they went for live prey, I thought they only ate roadkill and garbage.
