becomes a case of who has the hottest warmers. Temps will be cool, but the need to get track time in is killing me, I'll decide tomorrow

Tires will only be hot for a lap or two. Definitely won't be building heat this weekend. Even last year on that super smooth track surface I wasn't building heat in my tires. By the middle of each session traction had dropped a bit. Definitely need to be mindful of cooling tires. Still, we'll be able to have fun.

bah, the evil racing drug addiction keep calling my name, even with the weather forecast angel telling me not to. Now I know what it feels like to really be a relapsing drug addict :(, usually there isn't a lot of decision making required for the track.

Sunday looks to be 10c, Sunny with only 10% chance of precipitation!!! Woohoo!!!

Guys I might drive up Sunday and help you all in the pits (if needed) Whats it cost for spectating/pit pass?

Ill make the call tomorrow or saturday as I'm just trying to finish up a couple projects here at work.

Should be $0, but once upon a time TMP tried to charge $20 for spectators. If you are a helper though, you shouldn't have any issues. I doubt there will even be anybody at the gate at GBM to stop you.

Ok cool. I'll text you if I can make it. Maybe follow you up?

Found this pic. Kind of funny for this thread.

Are you saying we're a bunch of wimps for not riding in the rain? haha... I need to get some rain tires again for my spare wheels.

hahaha nope just thought it was funny in comparison to NASCAR who wont even think of running in the rain.

On a side note: I PVR'd the Superbike race in the Netherlands on the weekend and then raced in the rain. Talk about big balls and total carnage of riders sliding, high siding, and spilling in every direction. More interesting race I've watched so far lol

Yeah I haven't watched those races yet but a guy at work here said they were some of the most exciting races he's ever seen.

If you need to practice your "race" skills, then sure get a spare set of wheels and fresh rains (they won't last long) and go nuts. But if all you do is track days, then all you are doing by riding in the rain is drastically upping the odds of going down. The tarmac isn't any softer when it's wet.Trackdays are supposed to be fun.

I have a lot more fun at the track when I'm on my bike, we or dry. I agree it increases risk, but when I've spent hundreds of dollars to be at the track, I would rather ride than not.

a lot of time/effort/money goes into it, so I hear ya there
although turn 1 at SMP gets pretty spooky when its soaked w/o rains

My very first time on the track was Nelson, FAST phase 1, with Michelin Pilot Sport tires back in 2002. Yeah, sketchy for sure. Turn 4 was a lot worse that turn 1 back then, before they repaved it (which only happened a few years ago).
