Kitchener/Waterloo area, c u next trackday riders thread!

Used that place that advertises in the banners here on GTAM... forget the name right now... curses...
Yeah, I just found out that my number isn't available for Pro6 either unless I register as an expert - at least that's what I'm assuming that little "x" behind the number is on the registration page.
May have to switch to 837 or something like that (at least that number is bigger than Dave's ;-) ).

Yo Tim - great job! The paint looks sweet. Where did you get your number decals? I've got to change / modify mine for the Pro6 trackdays... as the number 59 is not available. ( I think it's kind of silly... as its just a trackday, not an official race) I'm thinking on adding a number before, or after the 59... or it could be easily changed with electric tape into, 69, 88, 58, 89, etc., or maybe just going with a new set.

Anyway, this track season is going to be awesome!

They do it purely for safety. They're able to quickly identify the rider that went down and look up their file for medical conditions/contact info. Pro6 (as you will find out) is worlds above some of the other track day hosts.

Nice bike Tim!

Maybe now you can keep up :P

So.. thinking more and more about the first Shannonville Nelson track day in 2012...
Ended up scanning a bunch of videos, and this one seems the best.

Lots of crazy long sweepers... and around the circuit in just over a minute on the video...
So, with my fat behind, 2:18 should be about right... :angry7:

Those guys look fairly sloppy to me. Definitely yellow group judging by the erratic lines and big difference in rider speeds.

I wish I had a tank view with proper sound for this one. The last lap, into turn 5 you can see a two wheel slide. Too bad it was the checkered flag lap, I think I was on pace for a personal best:

We all know you like looking at your own butt Dave, but 4:21 of it forced upon the rest of us? hehehehe...
Seriously though, looks like you were cooking it pretty good. At least you managed to reel in that pesky CBR that could pull on corner exits on you. Good job.
From what I saw, you were hitting about 1:06 to 1:08 for lap times. Like to see what you can do on a bike has more chutzpah... probably get it down to 1:01 to 1:03 maybe?

CBR?? That was an RSV4! Every time in turn 1 I was tempted to pass around the outside, but he was a yellow rider trying out red that day, so his lines weren't consistent. On the lap where I finally made the pass stick I was also going to pass him around the outside of turn 4 but the track narrows at the exit so I didn't risk it.

Those lap times were because I was being held up. My best on the SV is 1:02.0 on Nelson. On a modern 600 I would easily get under 1:00, but I want to get under 1:00 on the SV before I move back to a 600.

...and for the record, the butt cam is for training/learning purposes. It has helped me solve some body position issues.

actually the x allows 2 people to use the same number, one has an x one does not.

Are you absolutely positive that the X doesn't designate eXpert rider? Experts use black numbers, amateurs use red...

Well, my mistake for guessing the wrong bike... if that was an RSV4, well, he shouldn't have been in the red group with you...

So, what do you figure is a good time on the Nelson circuit for the green group? For someone out of the box first, so they're not caught up by slower riders in front of them... I'm thinking if you're 1:02, a good time for green would be a good 10 seconds slower?

Colour means nothing at track days. Smergy is right. It makes it easier for people so they don't have to change their numbers.

It was a two group day, so any of the yellow riders who thought they were "fastest" (to use Pro6 terminology) and wanted to try out for red took a shot. The guy was there with a friend on an S1000RR. I passed him a few times too. It feels really good doing that on my SV ;)

That's a good question. 1:15 is probably fast for a green rider. I would imagine there are lots of yellow riders who are in the 1:15 range. I think the SV lap record is 0:57, AM600 is 0:55 and Pro600 is 0:53, so I'm getting closer, but 5 seconds is a HUGE amount of time on Nelson. I know I can make up 2 seconds fairly easily, if I can put it all together on the same lap, but being able to nail the lines every time around takes a lot of practice.

I wouldn't worry about lap times at all until you're a faster yellow or red rider. It will likely slow you down if you get pre-occupied with lap times. Focus on being smooth and relaxed, the speed will come on its own.

Not concerned about lap times at all as of yet, but was more of an idle curiosity. I'm a complete newb (minus 1 day with racer5) and realize any and all days of potential greatness at the track have sailed off into the yonder about 20 years ago. Guess I just want to have an idea of what a "goal" might be. Technique first (and mine is the absolute s*it, and not in a good way), the rest will come naturally.

What makes you think your technique is s*it? Because when you rode a bike that you are way too big for you didn't feel very comfortable? You'll be much more comfortable on the SV that's for sure.

Nice new avatar by the way ;)

My technique, well yes - the bike was too small. I just know there's a few things that I really need to address.
As for the Avatar - it's Till Lindemann, lead singer of Rammstein.
And the tiny words - "Ich will das ihr wir vertraut" - "I want us to be familiar" (or familial, buddies, etc etc).

Good thing that's the whole point of track days :) No trophies so you need to have your own goals.

Very nice. He's scary, but I'll bet he's a really cool guy to hang out with.

Just read this in another thread:

We have courses at the Mosport RDT track on June 1st, July 8th and August 15th!

I've wanted to try the Mosport RDT for years but there are very few track days there. I would imagine these days are run as regular track days integrated with the school, so we should keep these in mind. July 8th is a Sunday which saves us a vacation day :)

Hey - although it is just a track day, we will still be awarding trophies.

Yea, I'd be into that.
