Kitchener/Waterloo area, c u next trackday riders thread!

Edit: a vise really helps to get the fork cap off, but be extremely liberal with the tape to protect your fork if your using it in a vise, you don't want to damage it. I like a combination of painters tape on the bottom (no residue), then hockey tape, because its a bit squishy, then lots of duct tape. When I say lots, I mean lots. Only clamp down the vise the minimum required, you don't want to bend your tubes. Be super careful with this part. The rest is pretty straight forward.

I always crack them loose before I take them out of the triple clamps.

ok ok, its pretty good. 424 lbs @ half a tank. My large frame sure doesn't help either. At the end of the day less weight = lots of money. I like going quick, but I don't like spending lots of $$ for an extra tenth. The Perelli race slicks this year will be a nice upgrade, although its kind of fun whizzing by dedicated machines on something pretty close to stock.

What group do you usually ride?

smart thinking, it always seems to be an after thought for me. Either way you still need to get the lock nut out, with 2 wrenches in hand, its nice to have a vice around

Yeah, true, or an extra set of hands. If I were going to be doing it a lot I would probably make a set of wooden blocks with semi-circle cutouts to put in the vice jaws.

Well, dropped Babs off today for a major service.. *sigh*
Quote for $675 after tax... That's with a $20/hour January Discount...
Really sucks when you have to rotate the engine to check the rear cylinder's valve tolerances.

Later!

Thanks for the heads up! I was hoping to go to a Grand Bend course, as it's closer, but that is a crazy good deal. I'll have to check those dates on my schedule.

I'm planning to be there on July 8th, if that works for you. Trust me, it's a lot more fun to be at a track day when you have some friends there. You'll be spending a lot of time with the instructors but being able to hang out and chat with friends at lunch, or whenever, makes the day a lot better. Also you know that if, God forbid, you hurt yourself you won't be alone and likely will be able to get a ride home.

Is Racer5 at GrandBend as well or only Mosport?

Picked up a one piece track suit today. A white, red and black Cortech Latigo RR. Never used (still in bag with all tags still on) for $400.. .figure that was a half decent price.
Have to do a funky chicken dance snake wiggle to get out of the damn thing though!

That sounds good Tim! Remember to roll around on the pavement with it before you ride with it.

Haha kind of like white running shoes shouldn't be brand new white and super clean when you wear them?

For anyone else interested in a suit, here's another Kijiji link that just popped up...
http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...thers-boots-back-protector-W0QQAdIdZ304094733
Here's a copy/paste of his ad info.

Teknic 1 piece leathers worn twice, MINT condition with knee pucks, size 48/58, should fit 160-190 lb person 5'6"-6', $400
Alpine Stars SMX boots size 45 euro (10-11) $100
Teknic back protector $50

I think the guy's estimate on the size of person it will fit is on the conservative side. I'm 6', 220 lbs, and a 48 fits me fine. In fact, the suit I got is listed as a 46-XL. I could probably gain 15 pounds in the belly and still have it fit. Would have picked up the suit I just listed if I hadn't committed to the Cortech one - the blue and white of the suit would have gone well with Babs too...

Great! Tempt me with one that's same colours as my SV. Thanks for making this easier :p lol

Got a ton of UA type shirts from playing and refereeing hockey. Will consider getting some bottoms... then again, I've got a 1 piece RBK suit that should work... decisions, decisions...

Jer -- What can I say about tempting you some more? You know you want it... hehehehe.... his asking price is $400, I'd go with $300 cash in hand... and then give it a good disinfectant cleaning....

Oh yeah, some more sizing comparison -- Dean's got a Teknic 2 piece size 48 that he swims around in pretty good.. I tried on the jacket and it was bang on...

...and I've got a Teknic 1 piece size 46 that is a touch too tight for me, as you guys know me. I need to lose 20 lbs (back to what I was in 2008 ) and it will be perfect.

Jer, do you have full leathers? If you do start doing track days you'll need leathers.

Tim, wearing the UA / Nike bottoms or a full under-suit makes getting in and out of the suit a lot easier on hot days. It is a bit warmer while sitting around (but the point is to take off the leathers anyway...), but on the bike I still get great air flow.

Dave: no full leathers yet. Spent a load on the bike. Might wait till feb when the bonus comes in and see what the finances are like then.

A tread mill wouldn't hurt me either. Unless you step on the side of it staring at the yoga hotties.
