Kijiji people are evil

I haven't had any really bad experiences on kijiji.

I do a lot of research about what else is for sale and set an appropriate price, I take lots of pictures and give a detailed and honest description. Sometimes it's hard because there aren't many comparisons. When I sold my KONA bicycle there were only a handful across Canada on kijiji so I priced it at the higher end because of condition ($850). I got 4 or 5 messages very quickly offering about half with a couple saying they'll come immediately. I politely say, no thanks I'm looking for more.

I always respond politely, but if someone is a jerk or nuisance then I delete and ignore, including the idiots who feel the need to offer their opinion about the price or item. Didn't ask and don't care. I'm always willing to negotiate and like others have said I only text my address. I also try to make it easy to buy from me, meeting somewhere, if it works with my plans helps a lot.

With the bike, in the end I got a message, we met in Oshawa and he gave me the asking price. Later he sent a message about how thrilled he was with his new bike.

I have a good one upcoming... I'm always doing complicated deals (logistically).
I posted a 1969 Triumph, non numbers matching, with a new front end, running with ownership, for 2800. I accepted an offer of 2750. I told the guy i need a non-refundable deposit to bring it to him (as i live in a remote area). He sent the deposit with the understanding (in writing) that if he rejects it for any reason i keep the deposit... I should mention I sent a video to him of it running and me riding off on it.

I wonder how it will go when i show up with the bike.

I KNOW it is worth 2750 as it sits. so no way in hell am i giving back his deposit if he doesn't like something about it.

On a side note: I've only had one person tell me my price was out of line. He has a want ad for a Honda Transalp. It's quite a rare and specific bike in Canada. I have one and said I'd take 7000 for it (which admittedly is on the high end). And he tried to give me "x, y, and z just sold one for 3800 and it had an aftermarket exhaust!". He was kinda rude actually, to the point where if i were to sell it it for 3800, i would not sell it to him at all. Where i see a ton of people asking way too much for their bikes on kijiji. Like, i know those bikes wont sell for more than 75% of what people are asking, probably 60% of asking. which is why lowballing is a thing

Yeah deposit is something I do for expensive items or something with a lot of offers at the same time. Helps separate the tire kickers from the serious buyers.

oh yeah, i had a lot of interest and he very quickly sent the deposit.

Ya snooze ya lose. I know I lost a lot by snoozing. I often send full amount within seconds of an ad coming up.

One always gets the scammers followed by the low ballers.

My latest purchase was a treadmill for $60. When I went to pick it up the guy wasn't happy with its condition and said I could have it free. It was what I wanted and worth the $60 so I offered him the $60. He refused and we dickered a bit and I finally gave him $20, telling him to buy his kid tee shirt or go for burgers.

I was giving away some car floor mats and he showed up on time plus gave me $10.

Sometimes you do run into good people.

And then there are the people that have never been outside their neighbourhood, don't own a map or GPS and can't spell E T O B I CO K E.

Hint: You're on a computer. Google maps is your friend.

The "Follow this link for *** report" scammers are hitting kijiji hard these days. I've had them contact me 3 times in 2 days so far.

I am resurrecting this one because of this:
The wiser people in this forum may be able to explain it rather me trying to find logic...
LOL.... it's the written version of "Did I just say that out loud?"

Bonus points for honesty. Very poorly thought out ad. Needs to be reworded similar to minas requests. I will buy your bike tomorrow as is, you dont even need to wash it. I wont pay you top dollar but I'll give you a fair price and it's easy and out of your way quickly.

Sold a large item yesterday and advised in the add I'm not interested in trades. Of course one knob asked if I'd trade it for his old Samsung cellphone, some out of date power tools, etc.
Did also clean out some kids stuff to a nice lady just starting a family and she ended up taking lots of items we didn't even have listed. Didn't ask for much in return, just nice to clean the stuff out and help someone else so kijiji can be good for that at times.

Wife is trying to clear out baby stuff as the youngest outgrows it…

- I’m interested but don’t have a car so you need to drop it off to me…in Whitby!
- I’m interested but I’m super duper poor so want it all for free, you don’t need it anyway

FML

I’d rather give some of this stuff away for free but we’re the last in our friend group to have young kids so not many need it.

i'd put a 'best price' offer and say "if price is not met by 04/01" it's going to Good Will.

Bought a car off Kijiji last week. Listed at $6k, offered $3 firm and got the deal. When I picked it up the seller felt bad that he lost a hubcap so he tossed in a few bins of hard to find parts.

Got an unexpected set of 50 year old NOS signal lenses, a spare starter, water pump, grilled and shiny trains, bumpers and overriders... in all probably $1500 in unexpected parts.

Easy transaction, good deal.

Yup. I guess technically a rover but tomAto tomato.
Cool. I've only worked on Austin's... lots. In the late 80s I buried 5 minis on Sand Rd in Holland Landing. I had just returned from a trip thru Texas, a friend had a pile of junk minis so we buried them to match the Cadillac Ranch. We had 5, they had 10, we had fun. The town went nuts so we cut them off at grade.

As far as i know, the front halves are still buried, with engines and trannies. They are at the first curve on Sand Rd south of Queensville SD Rd in Riverdrive Park.

I sold a snowblower. One numpty asked if I'd deliver it to Ottawa (for free).
