JT's not the only one handing out free money...

Funny. I spent 35 years working for someone else. I never felt exploited. I've worked with coworkers in the past that think that way. Always complaining the boss has the power and money. My response was, then start your own company and be "the man". Nope, they would sooner complain.
I guess those that do well are just lucky.
Always easier to complain and criticize than it is to act. I’m guilty of it 100%.

But learning to focus better on the future goals and how to get there.

At times, we are all guilty of that.
We all start off with nothing. What you end up with is up to you. Of coarse their are those that start off in negative situations of not their choosing.
But even then, some will rise up and some won't.

Many are lucky to be born in a position of privilege that gives them a head start.

You have a very narrow view if you think exploration can be refuted by your workplace experience.

For example, starting your own company in construction can be considerably easier if your family has established contacts. Yes it can be done with hard work, but don't deny some have it considerably easier.

Here's one for the conservatives. Starting your own software company or charity foundation is easier if you have contacts in the government. Cool? High 5s all around.

Was this regarding question period and the ArriveCan app?
Did they ever find out where the money went?

If you want money instead of joy of what you do, pick a career that will get you $.
Get the education and the skills to achieve it, put in the TIME and EFFORT and you will be rewarded justly.
This i guarantee. HARD WORK equals $. Make yourself invaluable to whoever you work for be it client or boss.
But if you do it for love of job etc... then $ should not be important to you, if it is then it is not for love of job.

When you do become rich and love or hate your job.
Don't cry when our freeloading government squanders your hard earned tax $ on what they deem important.
That is just the way of our system and life that has been chosen in this country and no matter what it is still better than most countries i have been to in my life.

No one is entitled to anything and the sooner society learns this lesson the better.
If you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth good for you, maybe you can give someone less fortunate an opportunity.

Canada the greatest nation on Earth, We the North, Strong and Free!
Go visit other countries and see how they live, maybe you will appreciate what we have right here in our own backyard.
It may not be perfect but it is alot better than 80% of the worlds population has.

Agreed with @chingo…many people I know do nothing but ***** and complain about Canada being bad in XYZ.

‘Ok so move to where you want’
‘Well it’s not that easy’
‘So STFU and do something about it’

I know plenty of people that went to back to Poland because ‘life is awesome there’ only to come back within 2-3 years as they couldn’t hack it.

Life is great everywhere when you have money. It’s easy if you have money.

If you come in with enough money to buy a place but not much else. You’re pooched everywhere.

I would LOVE nothing more than have my own gig. But I don’t have the skills to do so, so I’m working on bettering myself in my job. I’ve got one more jump to make where I’m quite happy salary wise. Working on that now with some networking and sending out CVs…as well as making sure my direct supervisor is aware I want to learn and know what I’m missing to make that jump. That’s on me, no one else.

Except the cousin of an uncle who knows the hiring manager through something or other.

Outside of that…I’m good.

I agree this is a bullcrap offer to move the focus away from the CUPE negotiations. Totally the cash should be used for educational purposes.

Having said that. I applied for my $200 and will use it on the kids somehow. Only 1/3 is eligible but we’ll make use of it for them. Even if it means just dropping it into an RESP.

You sir, have nailed it!
I'll just add you don't deserve to be successful. You do have the right to work your ass off achieve success.

It seems to have become the Canadian way. "Oh wait, we aren't all the same! Just because I don't have your energy or ambition, I still deserve!!"

Ahh...no you don't.
May be an image of text that says ' Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. SENECA '

One has to be realistic and recognize the potential of a reasonable income from what you like to do. Some activities are just too competitive to be more than a subsidiezed hobby. Nothing destroys a fun activity than having it sink ones finances.

Also look at the opposite, working at something that tears your guts out because you hate it and you die young of stress.

Canada is a great country but would it be as highly rated if it was judged by how much of its potential is wisely used versus what is wasted?

If every public sector worker deserves a living wage that is on the order of 60k (above the median wage), it is very hard to tax the private sector enough to cover that bill. You have just moved the haves and have nots around. Some people are still struggling to live.

As far as minimum wage driving inflation, it's not quite that simple. When minimum wage was $10, they were fighting for apartments at around 1000. Now that minimum wage is 15, apartments start around 1500. Move minimum wage to 30 and the cheapest apartment will be ~3000. Landlords get rich, people still have trouble getting a place to live. It is a housing supply problem. Income matters as a percentile not a number. If you are in the bottom 10% (for example), life will be a huge struggle to survive. Ensuring no public sector employees occupy lower percentiles ensures more private sector employees occupy those positions. Same number of people are struggling to live.

I think teachers should make far less (30% or so), EA's should make more (~20%). Politicians should have compensation cut by an order of magnitude and we would still be grossly overpaying for the service they provide
You actually think that minimum wage increased rent? You actually believe that? Please please say that is what you believe. There is no other variable to your math? You do know what causation vs correlation is correct...? Can you think of anything else other than minimum wage going up that has occured in the last couple of years. ALL over the world? Did rent go up in states that wages didn't? Think about it before you answer. Remember when i said show your work? Saying minimum wage is an inflation driver is an opinion. it isn't the truth.

Bank of Canada seems to think that minimum wage increases have caused .1% of inflation. Feel free to disagree with them:

If you logic was valid....the prices of rentals would have gone down when minimum wage was lower than inflation...

I find it hilarious that companies have tricked us into thinking this kind of garbage. How many people do you know who work their ass off in jobs every day for way less than they deserve. Honest hard working people. Companies used to pay them a living wage.....but now we say "if you don't like it get another job". SO exactly who takes care of the jobs that take care of the weakest among us. Who are the LTC workers? They take care of our elders and our parents and eventually us. You want the process of taking care of YOU to be sold to the LOWEST bidder? Hey ....just work harder. No one in this thread is saying that people who don't work hard deserve to be given anything. But what about those EAs and secretarys and janitors. We need them. And 50 years ago when a business owner didn't make 300 or 3000 times what his lowest paid worker did people could work their entire life at a grocery store and make ends meat. But now we actually argue against increasing wages for all....to our detriment. To all of our detriment. You wanna spur the economy and create jobs give 3k to the lowest paid.....not tax free savings accounts for the top 1%. WHO do you think will pay for these people when they have no home and have worse health outcomes when they are old and have no savings so have to be put in a home? Taxpayers.....the same people who cannot afford to pay a worker making 43k instead of 39k.

One problem is that many or most of the owners are shareholders in publicly traded companies. They dump their shares as soon as their dividends even smell like they might drop. It's not like they have to sell a business they started and grew. The CEOs cater to the shareholders, not the employees or customers.

I love owner run companies but the reality is that we need big corporations. Small owner run companies are finding it harder to survive. Try opening an independent store in a major mall. The malls want national chains. If an indy does get in they face higher rents and kick backs. Most municipalities don't want corner stores any more. When I told a developer I wanted to buy an industrial unit he said "Good for you. We screw you when you rent." People wanting to start up a business need to spend their capital on tooling, supplies and wages. Buying property takes millions out of their start up purse.

The problem is that a small company can't mass produce cars, design and build CT scanners, TV sets, heavy machinery etc. Small companies can be hardware stores, restaurants and offer many other services but are being driven out by the big guys.

It's tough on the little guy. He / she doesn't make hundreds of times his / her workers. He / she has a face and name and doesn't hide behind spin doctors and a board of directors.
