Not possiblecan he make having kids affordable
I've watched the National for 30 years.I know you guys don't like CBC but there's some good comments in here
Use the $200 to hire additional ea's and pay everyone more? Obviously those parents are not good at math. 2,025,000 students at $200 each. 55,000 people in this current bargaining group. That is $7,300 each as a one-time payment. If you hire more, number goes down. If you want a recurring payment, number goes down a lot. As a perpetual payment, that is in the ballpark of ~$220/year/person in bargaining group. Whoopee.I know you guys don't like CBC but there's some good comments in here
My guess is the group of parents are CUPE members.I know you guys don't like CBC but there's some good comments in here
Not sure if douggie will be as amenable.
Reimbursing just reinforced that it was political theater and not legitimate negotiation.I wouldn't. You run with the bull, you get the horn.
I agree in principle but I suspect both sides would just choke the chicken for the entire summer. There would be no sense of urgency as there is no consequence for delaying. I think they need something like a chess clock where you have a time limit to respond or a penalty is triggered. Something like $100k per day doubling every day that is donated to an unrelated charity seems reasonable. Neither side could hand it back as is, they need to make a meaningful move on at least one issue or their clock is still ticking.I don't support the 'not withstanding' clause... But.. I've be witnessing this crap my most of my life and am tired of it.
First of all..... Move the contract dates to the beginning of the summer to give some time for bargaining before the strike threats.
Alter the seniority rules... and get rid of the old, tired teachers that are holding on way too long... and let the younger generation in.
Finding any staff within the school boards in the summer is impossible. They are all gone.I don't support the 'not withstanding' clause... But.. I've be witnessing this crap my most of my life and am tired of it.

Age discrimination. A lot of private sector companies have the same problem. An out of touch senior won't quit at 65, hoping the company will buy out his / her 30+ years of service with a couple years severance pay.I don't support the 'not withstanding' clause... But.. I've be witnessing this crap my most of my life and am tired of it.

As for sceniority, this is eces, janitors and secretaries. I dont see the same seniority issues there. They may exist but I havent seen them.

I was talking with a parent about the staffing shortage through the pandemic, her school had to bring back a retired principal who is 72 because they had no options, but this person was also good.
JT called Doug last night from the Emergency Act Hearing, the point of the call was to inform DF the Notwithstanding Clause tramples rights. This CUPE dick swinging is going to get expensive. Theoretically, gov't could fine $4,000 per member and $500k for the union per day. That is $220M per day in fines. That would pay for the handout given to parents in two days. Not sure what kind of war chest CUPE is sitting on but I suspect not that big. In the past, liberals would reimburse unions for all strike costs after contract was settled. Not sure if douggie will be as amenable.
I'd abolish PSU unions altogether. Unions in principle are there to protect the proletariat from being exploited by the bourgeoisie. PSU are there simply to extract as much from Gov'ts as possible. PSU's are active politically and generally have monopolies on labor pools which has let them drive gov'ts to meet sometimes very unreasonable demands.I don't support the 'not withstanding' clause... But.. I've be witnessing this crap my most of my life and am tired of it.
