Make sure you submit meter readings. Otherwise they just over estimate and won't correct it if they are over.
To me this is part of the problem (Not knocking your comment BTW) why is it that we, the paying customer has to do the work that our payments should cover? Perfect example the bank charging you a "convenience fee" to do a tellers work at a ATM..

Oh I get were you are coming from. Should be part of the service we are gouged charged for.

Last year I was being bill way excessively, so I started to send in readings each month. Eventually they corrected it and I practically got 2 months free. (ya it was that much).
Funny enough this must have triggered something as I ran into the meter guy on my street later in the spring. Basically told me they don't do readings in the winter, and IF things go out of wack, then they will send people out.

The more I expericne how things are done in Canada as I get older, the more I dislike it. It's like a bad business model where it's ok to be a little unethical and slowly keep pushing on these edges to dupe people but not enough to be fully scummy.

Our meter is behind a locked gate, they do not have access. I submit a couple of readings per year and they check it at least once in the summer (knock on the door to get access).

The last bill in our balanced billing cycle is ALWAYS adjusted either up or down (usually down as I like to roll back heating earlier than many other people do). But they always settle up yearly one way or another. Same when we had the meter replaced last year...

I’ve moved my stat from 71 back to 68, has made a difference in my billing

I use a NEST and it does a thing twice a year where it monitors temp and sets it to be more economical, we also have temp sensors in other rooms which it monitors to ensure the house is pretty equal temp wise. In the past we saw a notable savings, now though even though it works as intended it has no idea how the prices are changing.

Watching the nest do its thing is entertaining. Their autoscheduling schtick just keeps turning down temp until you cant stand it anymore and turn it up repeatedly. As for remote sensors, nest treatment of them is appalling. Basically you can tell thermostat to switch to another sensor as the control input according to a schedule. No attempt at occupancy sensors, no attempt at running fan if temps diverge. They can be useful in the right application but for most cases they are a wank to pretend they matched what ecobee could do.

I’ve had the nest installed with a part of the new furnace, I keep the fan running constantly. Seems to keep the air temperature equal in all rooms.

My house is 3200 square feet and for some reason they installed the furnace more to the front of the home

Sure they do. It just becomes a credit toward the next bill.

As for me...I submit those readings religiously monthly. Got screwed ones when I forgot to submit it for 6 months and they were short on the estimate...oops.

Our meter is behind a locked gate and with kids around I don't want anyone there that I'm not inviting. They tried a few times and typically come around every 2 months...which is surprising because both Peel Region Water, and Alectra are able to take remote readings (via air signal, and water by close proximity to the house) so not sure why Enbridge still needs a physical reading (union maybe?)

I'll boost the fan to run all the time as right now it's only set for 20-30min/hr and the house cools off fast. The main floor is freezing, while the top level is very warm.

EDIT: You can sign up on the Enbridge site to get a text message when it's time to submit your reading.

We're the same. Normally a meter reading (by a guy that walks the subdivision) every two months and guesses in between. Guesses are normally reasonably close but not always. I have had a credit bill in the past when the guess was wrong (ditched gas pool heater and they assumed it was still running).

No idea why gas meters are manual read. No electricity plus gas? Cant use flow to generate electricity to power transponder? By definition meter has to be outside and accessible? Electricity is fully remote readings, I think water needs someone to touch the pad on the side of the house. It is in a blind spot and only done every three months so I haven't seen the water person.

Kevin cut the line to the water meter outside at our house, so we went months without a reading until I called to ask what's up.

Peel came by, checked the transponder, and it was not working so I had to do manual readings sent in via MAIL! on a regular basis. COVID got better so they were able to come by, and as I have a finished basement I didn't let them rip it apart to install / search for the broken wire.

They installed a transmitter at my water valve, which is underneath the front door. They're able to slowly drive by the front of the house (about 30-40ft away) and catch the signal. No need to leave the car or walk toward the house. The transmitter is under my front door.

If that raise pushes you into a new tax bracket it may not be as exciting as you'd hoped for...
Oh it would be very exciting to go to the next tax bracket….I would need a 30k raise to get there for both Federal and Ontario!

You still make more money, so going up in tax brackets is not the issue many people would have you believe.

You always make more money.

Works well for me and we all could use a good wank..

I can't imagine there would be any difference if anyone else was in power unfortunate but true conservatives are in power in Ontario have they lowered taxes or not

Well I don’t think the cons would be jamming this much tax at the federal level, but who knows. Probably see next election

Smart thermostat is worst thing I bought. Missus wakes up middle of the night, cold... rolls over to her phone and cranks up the heat to 76... then 1hr later she's hot, rolls over and sets it down to 67, rinse and repeat all night, and then opposite for summer with AC.

Before she wouldn't be bothered walking downstairs to the dining room to mess with it.

Hmm mine has no interest in the app and I have it locked to max 21 in winter and min 22 in summer.
