Importing a Motor Vehicle To Canada (the be all end all)

That bike does look new LOL

I missed out on a mint '09 CBR Phoenix edition. It was twice as close than this one. Had only like 3000 miles and was going for $5500.
Lasted only like 3 days on Craigslist.

Hi
I am hoping to buy my next used 'bike in the U.S.
I cannot take a long trip, so I am thinking of getting it shipped to somewhere in the Lewiston Bridge area and driving down there to trailer it home.
Does anyone know of someone in that area who would take delivery and hold for a short while until I can collect.
I thought of renting a storage unit, but they say they cannot accept a delivery without my being there.
Can anyone advise me on this?
Many thanks,
Peter T.

I'm looking at buying a bike in Canada with a Philadelphia title. The owner says he imported it correctly, and rides it up north. If I buy the bike, can I change the ownership from philly to ontario myself?

If the bike was imported correctly, it should have ONTARIO title, not US state title. RIV requires you to register the bike with MTO within a certain amount of time. There is definitely something fishy about that bike - either owner simply does not want to pay PST + RIV fees to register the bike properly or there is something inadmissible about that bike (e.g. rebuilt/salvage title).

Are compliance labels checked at the border?

I am importing I bike into Canada soon but I haven't seen it yet. I asked the private vendor if the bike had a compliance label. He wasn't sure. He says it had an emissions compliance sticker for sure.but I don't think that's it.

I know I will need the label to have the bike registered in Canada. But will I need it to get the bike into Canada. Do customs Canada physically check for compliance labels at the border or do they just check paperwork? Will I be refused entry if the bike doesn't have a label. I know if I can get it into Canada I will have 45 days to get a compliance letter but I have nowhere to store the bike in the US if I get refused entry.

Complience label is a sticker that usually located on the side of the bike or on the forks. It has VIN of the bike on it.

Vendor should know what it is to be honest. They will not let you enter the bike into Canada without this label at the border by the way. It has to be on. Custom guys come out and make sure it's on.

Def something is fishy going on. I'd stay away or make sure to go over his paper work.

We figured it out. It's a husqvarna bike, they can be imported for off-road/track only, so that guy definitely didn't pay the PST/RIV fees.

I think as long as the bike model is on the list of importable bikes, then they will allow it into Canada. Obviously, they'll check for the VIN label on the frame.

All makes sence now. Just can't ride it on regular roads.

Thanks for the replies, I guess I know that the RIV site says that the bike is checked at the border. I even know what the compliance label looks like. I have imported bikes twice in the last 4 years and nobody looked at the bike, just the paperwork. Do they check it over now? Does anyone have recent experience from Lewiston to confirm this. I might just be fretting over nothing. The bike may well have the label but I wont know till later this week.

Thanks

Brought a bike over through there last week. Yes, they come out to see it.

You can't do it in a day as USCIS needs the paperwork faxed to them at least 72 hrs in advance. The office in Port Huron is not open 24/7 either, so you have to time it for when they are open.
