I never liked marine land

Just went yesterday and it was great.

I have never believed any newspaper story, news is full of lies, misquotes, misinformation and fiction.

I really don't see a problem, if those animals were in the wild they'd most likely be dead.

Seals get glaucoma
Walruses regurgitate
Sick animals get killed by the strong

Err.....wot?

"Marineland animals suffering, former staffers say"

Sounds like disgruntled empoyees who were let go.

As far as. I know, you can only swim with captive bred dolphins in the states. Not saying it makes it better, but if you're born in a jail and don't know any different...

We just got back from a two day vacation in Niagara Falls and neither of my kids even wanted to go there. They were more than happy with the water park.

The employee quit and there wasn't just one, quite a few former employees who quit are saying the same thing. Take your turbo-logic else where.

Well actually read the article. He quit after 9 years or something. What the first 8 years and 51 weeks everything was good? Oh and he does not say "We should not shut down the park." What he says "They won't let me near to train him some more. The walrus needs me!!!" But hold on there is the other employee says "The walrus has gained weight and is doing good since you left, don't worry." That article was a classic Star joke.

did you read the guy's log book? Seemed like he was trying to do something, but the owners weren't interested. How about what happened with the dolphins? If the owners are in the right they can always sue him for slander and making false claims in court.

Let me state I have been to Marineland a couple of years back with the kids. It was as if the 70's never ended. The bears in the pit, classic. (Classic in a not funny kind of way.)

Saying that the story is one-sided. The guy paints himself as a hero and Marineland as the bad guy. But he worked there for 9 YEARS. A decade he did nothing. I have children the same age who I can barely remember them as babies but in their entire lifetime all he did was write in a log book?

As for suing. Yep, but Marineland has had a lot of bad press and the parking lot is still full. They have a lawyer saying "Ignore it or we get more bad press." Tomorrow, Julian Assange will get diplomatic immunity or something and the world will move on to a new story.

Marineland is disgusting. You dont need former employees to tell you that those animals are being mistreated... If you cant see it with your own 2 eyes you're a blithering idiot.

I am not a fan. I have been there a few times since I was a kid, and it just does nto have good value in my opinion. I agree the animals look a bit sketchy at times, certainly the bears. they look sort of weathered.

We recently went to Seaworld in Orlando, animals looked in much better condition, the place itself was in way better condition, and they have a sea lion feedng area like the bears are in at marine land. The sea lions beg mercilessly for a fish to be tossed over. The area they are held at least tries to replicate their natural areas. I was there a a kid a long time ago, what I was surpised was missing especially in the shows, was any talk about the animals behaviours, conservation,...

Seaworls is well kept, appears well run, would I go back? probably not, it would be pretty far down my list
Marineland, not anywhere on my radar to visit now or in the future, does not feel well run and poor value.

I cant believe I'm agreeing with something this guy says. When an animal is sickly or in pain, or living a poor quality of life it's not difficult to tell by the disposition of the animal.

Am I'm the only poster who's actually been to Marineland in the past 365 days? I'm no expert on animal care, but I can say in my opinion, the animals appeared healthy and performed extremely well.

I haven't been there recently. When I went, years and years ago, the animals looked to be in poor condition. This may have changed. I do agree there are two sides to every story. But if the media attention means that the relevant agencies who monitor the conditions will pay closer attention then I think it's a good thing for those animals. The owners of the establishment will have to seek the remedies available to them for the losses in revenue that they may see as a result of the negative press.

Holer used to use the building behind the main stage as storage for both supplies and the animals (storage is about the only way to describe how the animals were kept) that performed the acts for the crowds. Once a month I had to back my work van in and load up some of the items he had stored there (what it was is irrelevant). Where I backed in was right beside the walrus pen. It was no more that 25' in diameter. The best comparison I could make would be you buying a budgie and keeping it in a 8"x8"x8" cage 23 hrs, a day. The animals all looked distressed and were very vocal about it. Like I said in a post earlier, I have a friend I've known for 40 years that worked there as a trainer for several years then quit in disgust. If you can get him to talk about his experience (usually takes many beers), the stories of how the animals are coerced into learning how to perform those cute tricks you see on stage are mind numbing.
