St Petersburg is on my bucket list, I’m an architecture geek. One day…

For now I’ll check off other stuff.

Packing right now in fact, fly out Tuesday!

You'll be fine, you've been doing push-up...
ftfy

Now you're being mocked!

I'd go back to Galapagos in a heartbeat. I'm not so sure about Hawaii now that Oprah owns half of it.

Same.

Overrated, way better bagels!

For pizza, gotta go to europe!
Chicago has the best pizza, then Dante’s in Richmond Hill.

Chartres? My wife and I toured around Europe looking at gothic cathedrals. Also visited Dieppe.

You don't, you stay home and watch your own country slowing follow suit...

Oh good lord...are people really this delusional?

for example in canada you can get your bank account frozen for protesting, or get an rcmp visit for tweeting the wrong thing.

Maybe you questioned your government and got labeled a racist

And in lots of other places around the world you get disappeared or you might accidentally "fall out an open window on the 10'th floor" for those same things.

Lets not rehash the Crybaby Convoy nonsense.

My preference is a sleepy gated community in SW Florida. It's cheap, the food and drink are great, the pool and surroundings clean, and it's as safe to drive as the GTA. And I can get 1st world health care should an emergency happen.

Too bad you're in....Florida. I can think of many, many other places I'd rather go to that aren't bastions of geriatic MAGA cesspools. Reminds of of this thread I came across a month ago when I was searching for something else in the Florda sub on Reddit. It's not all as rosy as many perceive unless you're just gonna stay in that gated community and do nothing at all until you expire. Sounds boring AF to me. Plus, every few years your house blows away or is underwater, so there's that.

In related news....try cruising. Amazing bang for the buck, you can do as much or as little as you can possibly want or desire every day of the trip, it's a giant floating resort that takes you to other resort cities so you can see and experience different cities and cultures as part of your trip instead of just one, and with few exceptions, there's remarkably few problems on cruises unless you're doing the 2-3 nighter booze cruises on Carnival or something.

People who **** around on cruise ships find out in a hurry that their cruise just came to an end, problem solved.

Wife gest motion sick very easily, she's been curious but i can tell she pretty much doesn't want to lay down money and have a bad experience. I also suspect she's going to hate being 'confined' to a ship, she's very much the adventurer; spend all day out and about and come back to the hotel to sleep for a few hrs then hit it again.

I can live without a cruise, but i'd take one if she were game.

As do I, but basically never on a cruise. Put me on a ferry or some sort of sightseeing/whale watching cruise however and I'm chumming the water (or the porcelain water) in 20 minutes.

There's meds for that anyways, you can get them free on most ships, or just ask your doctor for a script for Ondansetron beforehand - that **** is magic.

Cruises are a lot different than what most people envision if they've never done one before. I'm the "don't sit still well" type person as well and I stay busy all day whilst my wife sits and reads a book, people watches, and sips drinks all day, hardly moving except to go to the bathroom. Meanwhile I'm constantly on the move just doing whatever I come across - endless stuff to see and do. Sometimes I stop and just kinda sit and watch the ocean go by, but it's pretty seldom.

When we're in a port, we usually explore the heck out of it, sometimes we'll do 5-10km on foot just exploring. Then back to the ship for the buffet lol.

I've traveled on the big type ships previously (Stockholm to Helsinki and somewhere in Denmark about half a lifetime ago), I'm pretty confident she wouldn't feel anything but as I'm sure you can relate to; someone trying to sell you on conquering your 'fears' can be easier said than done.

The big cruise ships are astonishingly stable. We were in the worst N Atlantic storm in 30 years ....Force 11 and while we could certainly feel it and kept one hand for boat, that was the only time over several cruises we had any sense of motion.
I think far more get airsick, car sick than on a big cruise boat.

Our first cruise was The Inside Passage to Alaska as it was on both of our bucket lists. Nearly the entire cruise is effectively inland waterway so lots to see and nice shore excursions. We didn't really think we'd go on another....The Inside Passage cruise is the ONLY way to see the Muir Glacier but as we were leaving there was an offer that seemed too good to be true.

$2400 each - that's all food, accommodation, travel and shore excursions for two weeks plus we got $150 in ship credit for wifi & things like espressos at the bar.
There is simply no better way to visit spots for a day or two you might want to come back to for a longer stay ( and we did return )
Faroe Islands a day before the storm. That $2400 each got us a midship cabin with a balcony to sit out on.

That was the hurricane level storm trip.....we did very briefly attempt to open our balcony door ...not a bright idea.

I'd highly recommend The Inside Passage trip as "toe in the water" for cruising. You are very close to shore.Screen Shot 2024-01-16 at Jan, 16 2024 1.32.57 PM.jpg

That's the Muir Glacier we were chasing.

Well planned cruises you spend the daylight hours in port out exploring and moving between stops at night tho nights are very short for Alaska or Norwegian summer cruises. Partner had a hard time sleeping with full daylight at 10 pm.

If you could guarantee me that I wouldn’t see another human being or not listen to ****** kids screaming for hours at a time I might consider a cruise.
They don't have adult only options? I would be shocked.

It's only crowded at meal times for the buffet area and you are not confined to eat at those times.
These are big vessels...outdoor walking/running tracks ...lots of quiet spots to sit and chill. We have no interest in "cruising life" and still enjoyed the at sea periods. Kick back on the balcony and watch the birds and read.
Typical cabin with a balcony.

Jude and I are about as antisocial as it comes.
If you don't want to do buffet they all have speciality restaurants to book for table service, some for extra money ...some not but you have to jump on the bookings as they fill up quick. Stroll out to dinner for your reservation and back to the cabin.
There are 24 hours eateries too....
NCL dining 24hr O'Sheehans

24-Hour Eatery – O’ Sheehan’s
In honor of CEO Kevin O’Sheehan, some Norwegian Cruise Line ships offer the alternative 24-hour eatery O’Sheehan’s Bar & Grill. This Irish-themed pub-style venue offers a limited menu filled with delicious fare like Chicken Pot Pie and English Style Fish N’ Chips. Open all day and night, complimentary with cruise fare.

NCL dining 24hr Blue Lagoon

24-Hour Eatery – Blue Lagoon
Blue Lagoon is a food court created ‘in honor of the midnight snack’. This complimentary 24-hour eatery is a great place to grab a burger, a stir-fry delight or a myriad of other options to fill you up in between your hours of fun on your cruise.

We enjoyed this as well on all the cruises we did. When they say "ready to cook" they mean a chef cooks your food to your liking while you wait.

NCL dining Outdoor Buffet

Outdoor Buffet (The Great Outdoors/Raffles Terrace/Lanai)
Another complimentary option that may be available during your Norwegian Cruise Line vacation is the outdoor buffet. Enjoy a superb meal: choose from ready-to-cook omelets, waffles, fresh fruits, pasta and more in a buffet-style service where you can enjoy the cuisine and delightful weather.

Internet was very slow but I could still run the business and I imagine much better now.
