"Have you been to the stampede yet?"

Jc if all you can do to support your position is to resort to name calling, well it shows your position is weak to begin with. Avoiding the question of whether or not the perpetrators of your so called massive shootings was or was not authorized to carry a firearm legally proves you don't know. To find the root cause of these massive shootings might be to audit what drugs these guys are being prescribed by their Doctors.

Bath Salts. ..... oh wait...

So the real question is whether they were medicated or not? lol Which was the biggest island before Australia was discovered? It doesn't matter....what's at stake here is that allowing more people to carry allows more weapons in the populace allows more chances of hithertoo unidentified wingnuts legally getting weapons (lets not forget also that there's a minority of people already "scared" and paranoid enough to want a weapon for all the wrong reasons). That's not taking into account the true criminal element who possess them illegally.

Also, are you seriously asking me not to call the NRA nutbar redneck xenophobes? You might want to look into the history of that organisation a little. I don't usually resort to calling people names but I will make an exception for the NRA.

I'm not...don't have one, don't need one, never even remotely felt the need for one here. Do you feel the need to have a gun on you at all times? Baby showers maybe in case an errant toddler decides to throw a dangerous rattle at you? Maybe walking down the street and suddenly when the Russians invade, which they do at 3.15pm every day, you can shoot them all? Maybe you scare away the aliens that are trying to land and steal our resources like Dairy Queen double cheeseburgers or something?

I don't agree with carrying a gun where-ever I go. Nor do I believe that any Tom, Dick & Harry should be able to acquire a gun. However, I hope you're not saying that all gun ownership is inherently evil??

I'm pretty sure some of the anti-gun replies can be translated to ownership of sportbikes yet not too many of us have a problem with that.

why should we be allowed to own 300kph factory produced street legal missiles?
why is a 16 year old that passes a pathetic M1 test allowed to buy one?
Is the average joe even mature enough to handle it?
They're designed for racing yet we're allowed to operate them on the street, made very much capable of killing but was never designed for it.

The anti-view can be applied to everything in life. I'm pretty sure if this was a gun forum, the topics would not be about killing or violence anymore than they are here when buddy brags about dangerous activities. Some people can handle life with maturity, others can't. The question is how to filter out the renegades (mental assessments prior to owning a sportbike?).

The same way you guys are judging this officer for his prospective/opinion on guns is the exact same way some people look at you for owning a motorcycle.
There are people out there that believe we shouldn't be allowed motorcycles on the street and just blow them off as ignorant or call them crazy. food for thought people....

I'm not sure its a fair comparison... guns have a pretty limited objective/purpose - its a weapon. Definition: A thing designed or used for inflicting bodily harm or physical damage.

And sportbikes were designed to race at high speeds. Sure you can use them to commute, just as you can use a gun for hunting or target shooting but who cares about that. The MAIN reason of a sportbike is to go fast, and kill families lol So what i did there?

Paul is trying to convince everyone that baby's should be playing with loaded handguns and that this equates to adults choosing to ride a motorcycle.

Yes but it's just not as convincing.

I was never trying to convince you but rather show you another prospective to something we accept as norm and others view as a danger.
To my GF bikes=death doesn't mean she's right but rather the way she views it. (crazy huh)

On a positive note, I was finally able to convince her to come to a superbike race and show her not all riders "die" but I still see it being a long road ahead before she will ever get on for a ride.

Oh I didn't know you were dating Paul. Time to get a new gf.

Agreed. Nobody criticizing this guy was there. They are going by the story in the Calgary Herald by Tamara Gignac. There were even rumours that the aggressors were actually spokespeople for the stampede. That was quickly proven false.

I'm not sure why some people keep getting this wrong. It's a reaction a letter that Walt wrote himself to the Calgary Herald. It's his description of the the incident and his own words, everything else is simply a reaction to it. It's interesting the position some gun advocates are taking here...as if this guy was one of your own or something. No one is going to come to your house and take your firearms away because you failed in your internet duty to ALWAYS uphold the right to carry, no matter how big the idiot is.

Geez, I thought his thread would get a good laugh out of people. Instead, both sides are predictably bunkering down to their well-worn battle-stations.
