Harper turnning Canada into an Orwellian police state!

Even at the beginning can't say your secure and happy when you are starving to death and could be put in prison for critiquing the government.
One more time leadership went knuts....

Hence my notion of a supervisory committee of normal regular people.. doing revolving duties.. deciding the future goals and supervising the govt instead of obeying the govt even for us in a democracy... count it towards jury duty hours if you must.

Go live in a communist country, you'll understand
i dont think yo uunderstand communism. Read the communist manifesto.
And i would love to go live in Cuba. As soon as the US stops ruining it and take off the blockade which for over 50 years has choked the country! Theres capitalism for you.

Mm do you understand the purpose of communism.. its not prosperity... capitalism is meant to do that and look well over 70% of the populations of capitalist countries are not exactly prospering... your aurgument is like going to a fast food joint and then saying look fast food joints are a failure since none of them are healthy.. unlike your favorite green/organic/health food store...

If the purpose was to bring prosperity to its people then yes they(eastern european communist countries) failed... but since the goal was to bring unity/security and equality instead.. they did a pretty darn good job...

China is an exception because they switched their system half way...along with the goals. From equality/stability to economic growth.. hence the financial growth.. THEY EVOLVED.

no matter how much I beat a cow its not going to lay an egg.. if you want eggs go fetch a chicken.

I'm not going to argue with you because I have seen that you're not open to facts, but I 'll answer this one. Communism has not bring a good standard of living to its residents

The problem with communism and socialism is that they take away the populace's ambition and innovation. Why bother, if you'll only be penalised for standing out from your peers?

Right their is the flaw with communism... thats where china made changes... they evolved past a barebone system.....

Awfull lot of people here in capitalist countries are in poverty and extreme poverty RockerGuy heck of alot more than a tiny minority....

Except thats not true at least with the exception of China what is socialism int an extreme IE communism the people of the socialist nations are among the happiest. Its easier to be an Entrepreneur in a country with socialized medicine and a social safety net. Nations are varying in their level of socialism sounds like your conflating it with Communism.

I would rather be poor here than be poor in China. China has opened up to the free market yes but they arn't sharing the wealth its not a great place to be poor. Plus its economy is like a giant shell game..

People in capitalist countries can have a very good standard of living if you work for it. In communist countries everything belongs to the state, everyone gets paid the same doesn't matter if you're a scientist, farmer or business man. There is no progression in communist society

Sounds like life under Shahria law in the Sunni fundamentalist state...

LOL man you are so predictable.... Every comment you make is about the same thing! Your greatest goal in life is to come on GTAM and post nothing but anti Islamic comments on EVERY thread no matter the topic

"If i was educated, I'd be a damn fool"

I dont often agree with CBC but he is right you have to stop brining it up in unrelated threads just to take a pot shot at Shah.

I wonder how many of you, experts on communism, actually lived it (without much choice) at all. I would bet not many, just by reading some of the non-sense ...

i will put it only list.. hopefully it won't be a cabbage fest.

it is my opinion that religion can exist on its own without being forcibly enforced on others... it only becomes punitive when PEOPLE start forcing it on others...if people were to see religion as a set of ideal to aspire to instead of sticking to every literal translation while ignoring the principals behind a line or phrase etc...

its the religious fanatics that are the problem.. they start forcing their own faith on others...a societal political/ technological system should in my view be separate.. and must be left to the individual to practice with out prejudice or consequences...

A problem arises when the definition of religion is expanded and I sense that creates friction in traditional fundamentalist sects whether they are Christian, Muslim or Jew.

Atheism is a person's religious choice to not believe in any deity and if that person sees no problem with crude language how does a fundamentalist enjoy his or her religious freedom if public venues are full of atheists swearing about life?

It isn't like alcohol. A teetotaler can sit at the same table next to a beer drinker and not ingest alcohol. How does a fundamentalist "Not hear" words without infringing on the right of others to use profanity.

Then we have to define profanity? Found Under Carnal Knowledge is one of the more common words used in the English language and although not considered proper it's no longer banned from TV.

The separation of church and state is oxymoronic. When the state grants religious freedom it becomes involved with definitions and the state is no longer independent of religion.

It remains true. In socialist countries, you cannot become a real entrepreneur and become highly successful. The state takes all the profits and redistributes them to others. So why bother?

Are you knuts? Even the soviets had different pay compensation classes based on the work you did... scientist/ military pilots etc were kept in better conditions than your average farmer... i suggest you research pay standards in all communist countries and actually talk to people from those countries especially from varrying academic classes

True being a true independent entrepreneur is impossible in a communist structure .. remember india for a long duration was considered a socialist country... it is possible in a socialist country but not a communist country.

Canada, the US and UK and all off Europe is full of rich Entrepreneurs..all socialist...

Again you are conflating socialism with Communism or implementation of wholly socialist states. Socialism is a scale. You drive on government built road.. congrats you live in a partially socialised state having no socialised programs would require the privatization of all aspects of life or Laissez-faire capitalism.
