Had someone act like an ******* to me cause of the car I drive

I'll admit that Mercedes has some nice looking vehicles lately but as far as I'm aware they make next to nothing with a manual transmission so I'm not interested one bit.
Who needs a manual tranny when you have paddle shifting which for me is the best of both worlds with no shifting in traffic and anyway I don't think there is a human being on this planet that can out perform the automatic in sport plus mode

Paddles are good when coupled to a proper manual transmission (DCT, SMG, PDK, etc)... not so much when they control something slushing away behind a torque-converter.

I love mine and it seems pretty precise even on the hard down shifts coming to a corner and also as precise on the upshifts.

If I wanted the fastest vehicle possible, modern (typically dual clutch) autos win, but so do automatic bikes. Who wants an automatic bike?

I want fun and engagement and some level of skill to wring the most I possibly can out of my vehicle.

Soon enough, a computer controlled car will start setting track records and be untouchable, but where's the fun in that? Most people are the weakest link in the vehicle control system, the more the people are removed, the faster the vehicles become (and more boring). Electric cars will also start doing instantaneous 3d power distribution that will wring every last bit of traction out of the tires and a human could never even hope to manually control that, but I still don't want it in most situations.

Depends on the car, and the driver's expectations. Maybe you have a good car, or no better point of reference ;)

Some automatics are excellent when it comes to paddle shifting, but most are crap. From everything I've read, M-B and BMW have some standout 'sport' transmissions in their lineups. I know that the later generation ZF sport automatic in BMW 3 and 5 series cars is excellent in this department, I'd probably buy that over the manual offerings if I was buying a 5 series today.

With that said, manufacturers have been putting paddles and 'tiptronic' in their cars for a long time now, and 95% have been absolute garbage.

nobody is ever an *** to me in this car.. I think mostly they feel bad for me driving a 40 year old nissan

Minilites. Nice.

Panasports to be precise.. Not the most original thing ever thought of on an S30, but I think at 16" they really suit the car well. If it wasn't this, it'd be fender flares and big fat rubber on all 4s.. but I can't bring myself to change it now. More traction at the rear would be nice, however.

I'm assuming sarcasm? Why?

are you kidding me? between the wife and I, we've had 4 stick shift cars over the years. 6 months ago, I bought a brand new mid/full size family sedan with what I believe to be only one in its market class with the manual transmission option.

Its a shame more people don't embrace the manual.

In a few years, my next purchase will be heart breaking as I don't expect to see any more reasonably priced sedans offered with manuals....

Sweeeet Car! I remember liking them when I was a kid, and they were new. Isn't it a Datsun though?

Yessssss finally some recognition for all my spending!!!!

My dad had a similar one before I was born. Unfortunately he went around a corner too fast in the rain, went off the road, rolled it onto it's side, and then smashed it into a telephone pole. Walked away with a broken collar bone. No fines even for the radar detector on the dash. They just felt bad he totalled his car. He said it rusted so fast you could practically hear it, though, lol.

I've driven several "manumatics" by a bunch of different manufacturers. In the end it always just feels like a gimmick and I end up switching back to fully automatic mode within minutes. Not the same at all. Like others said, I don't need the fastest car nor the fastest shifting. I actually went out of my way to find a manual SUV and quite like it. I am, however, glad the Gallardo I got to drive was manual.

Sorry I misunderstood! Glad to see another manual lover. Save the manuals!

Yeah I don't pull mine out of the garage if there's so much as a cloud in the sky  not a spot of rust anywhere on it, though
