GTAM at TMP Weekend! July 20/21 2013

It was a good day, nice to see some of the SOAR regulars and some old faces and new ones.

Thanks Paul and Cutekill for organizing and thanks track side cuts for the draw price (better have it ready for me next weekend or I will wake your *** up :) ) and the Squids for kids team

I honestly thought this was going to be a cluster **** of a day but no one crashed and everyone behaved, very enjoyable.

Corsara you were doing very well, you should have come up to red for a couple of sessions and try follow some of the guys, maybe you would have improved a bit more and you ride safe and consistent enough to come to red on a gtam day like today

If anyone has any pics of a black and yellow bike in red number 601 it would be appreciated

Yeah, where are the pictures? Also, where is my award for most comical crash ever? :) If that's not enough, watch the whole 2 min 15 seconds, there's even more entertaining things happening towards the end. I'm sure all eyes were on me :smilebox:

Hey corsara, I see your fork preload adjusters are set to the max, are the springs OEM or you have aftermarket ones? Were you able to achieve a 25-30 mm sag with that setting? I just put 2003 GSXR1000 forks with OEM springs on my GSXR600 track bike, and the front end felt like a pogo stick today at TMP. Looks like I can't set a 25 mm sag for my weight (200lbs) with these springs, the best I could do was 32mm. The front end was bouncing like crazy today especially after coming off the brakes...

If it was bouncy you should have added rebound damping, not preload. But yeah, I'll bet the stock springs are too light for you. Corsara is about the same weight as you but runs much stiffer springs than OEM.

I did add 2 clicks of rebound damping once and another 1 click at the next session, it seemed to improve the front end a bit, but rebound damping will not fix the main problem I have with the incorrect sag. Will try more rebound damping at my next track day and hopefully the front end will not bounce like a pogo stick again.

Here's my video. Sorry, boring - just me in the frame. But it was an exciting day for me because I *finally* got out of my little rut and started taking time off my laps again. Also, for the first time, I was getting my knee down in most of the corners. Progress!

Constructive input appreciated. I'd really like to see a 1:25.x this season.

Thanks bud, but I still have more work left to do in yellow, not finished yet :) Thanks for all the help today!!!

I weight 200lb too. Changed the springs to 1.00 kg/mm, thinking that I'll lose weight (hence the preload to bring it to a bit less than 30mm). In hindsight, I should've went with 1.05kg/mm in both forks (or at least one of them). But, even so, forks work well now (despite the preload and shorter travel). I also have thicker oil in there (10w) for more damping (the poor man's revalve alternative).

The stock clikers are ****, almost an on/off switch. I doubt you would notice any difference with just 1 or 2 clicks. Try going in steps of 5 clicks or more, you might have better success.

Happy birthday, YellowDuck! Was nice meeting you today!

You'd want to hear from somebody with more experienced than me, but I liked your video. The only thing I'd fix is body position, I might be wrong, but you seem a bit crossed up with the bike (your head is not over the handlebar inside the turn). But somebody more knowledgeable would better comment on that, not me.

Are the ones you have Race Tech springs? Where did you get them and how much $ were they? Can't deal with this front end anymore...:D

Yeah, spring are RaceTech (I think about $150 for the pair, don't remember). I try to do most things myself on the bike, but I had the forks done by Ryan Gill (Condor Racing) in Hamilton. PM me if you want and I'll give you the contacts.

What's up with the stalls? Video ended as I was really getting into it

Yeah, what's up with the stalls!!! :angry5:

There's more than one way to skin a cat. Even in motoGP and WSBK you'll see guys with different riding styles. There are guys like Marc Marquez and Stefan Bradl who can almost drag shoulder around a corner and there's guys like Johnny Rea with a more old school riding style.

Jodi Christie get's off the bike a lot, Jordan Szoke not so much and Alex Welsh even less. If you can get off the bike that far and feel comfortable doing it there are advantages to doing so but not everyone can do it.

I think I'm somewhere in between. I aim to get my chin over my inside hand.

Try not to stuff people at the apex of corners to the point where there is a good chance they they are either smacking into the back of your bike (because you are completely off the race line) or have to slam on the brakes while in the corner so much that there's a reasonable chance they will lowside.

Anyone can pass in the corners badly, work on making clean passes.

I have some photos of green and red, a handful of yellow from the first one or two sessions, just for saturday (wasn't able to make it out on Sunday). Post your numbers, if I have any photos I'll shrink them down and post them.

Do you have any from 20th (Saturday), yellow group, black gsxr, red #359?

Geez, really? I always try to leave *plenty* of room when passing. If I put you into an awkward position on the track then I am very, very sorry. I have had that done to me before and it is not nice. I assure you that I do not intend to be aggressive at all. Normally, if someone shows me a wheel I just roll off a bit and let them go. Generally, if someone is in a position to pass me, to me that is proof that I have been holding them up, so I back off and let them by.

I really wish you had come to me in person and mentioned this incident. If you would like to discuss it further could you please PM me? Seriously, I feel very bad about it if I caused you any trouble at all.

It's ok, it was the first dry session on the reducing left radius turn. For the moment for that corner I go into it a bit slower and power out.

I saw you on the inside just after I rolled on the throttle. It was more just because I saw you too late, wasn't expecting anyone else in the line until you were right there :p

It sounds like he got you on the brakes on turn 6 and took the inside line which is the right way to pass on that corner, there is plenty of track to run off wide.

Getting stuffed (properly) will just make you a better rider, you always have to expect it.

Just my opinion, obviously i wasn't there to see it.

Thank you for taking the pics, even if mine were blurred it is always nice when someone does that for others.
