Great rate at TD MM

Old. I'm just a new bike rider, but have been licensed and driven every day of my life for 25 years.

Just an update, even though I'm switching all my insurance to "The Personal", I just received my renewal from TDMM for my motorcycle insurance and it was going to go up from $600 to $674. Just another reason I'm happy I'm switching.

Today I just finished switching all 3 policies to The Personal (Car x2, home, motorcycle) for a grand yearly savings of $980. In the end my 2015 Ninja 300 w/ ABS cost me $386/Year ($32/month). For each policy my deductible was reduced as well.

Mine just went up $400.
From $1,800 to $2,200.
2008 Yamaha FZ6. 24, full M, no tickets or claims.

We should use this bike and split insurance costs.

On the Motorcycle Garage Sale FB group today alone there's more horror stories about TD - lots of people in the last week or so opening their renewals to big increases. There seems to be no ryme nor reason to the very significant increases some very experienced clean record riders are getting, on cruiser bikes nonetheless, whereas you experience a decrease. Young SS riders are really getting shockers, but the older cruiser riders (with clean records and driving metric bikes on top of it) getting big increases as well doesn't make any sense...

If they were trying to get out of the motorcycle market all together it would seem to me that they'd be jacking everyones rates

Yeah, I don't pretend to understand what they're up to. I'm just glad I'm not seeing an increase and that my coverage hasn't changed.
Edit: I'm also an experienced clean record rider, I just don't ride a cruiser.

The young risky SS segment I can kind of understand, they wouldn't be the first insurance company out there to decide they aren't interested in that anymore and want to exit it, but the rest...well, are they just throwing darts at a board somewhere and deciding who gets to stay, and who needs to go?

First, it seemed like it was just SS and Harley riders seeing big increases...then for a bit it seemed like the it was all about CC's, then perhaps the metric cruisers were getting through unscathed, but ALL of that got blown out of the water tonight as well, and then the cherry on top is you posting about getting a decrease on your renewal...on a bike which IMHO would seem to be in a higher risk category than some of the lower-CC metric cruisers out there who are seeing increases from rates that were already above yours to begin with.

Like I said....no sense at all to this.

Seems like they don't want moto business anymore.

And to respond to a comment a little higher, middle aged bike owners in their 40s and early 50s (a lot have cruisers it seems) are part of the demographic with the most accidents in ontario so i can SOMEWHAT see why there would be some increase.

But I haven't gotten my renewal letter yet, im sitting tight and getting the lube out. I was kinda happy at 1000$ for my first year (with car and house rebate) and now I'm scared ********

I recommend the Personal as well. Very fair rate on my bike, 2 cars, and home, and rates went down for this coming year.

FWIW, The Personnel was the first company I checked with as I have my car with them on a group rate. They stated that they will not insure sport bikes. I should call back to clarify if that meant through all license tiers or just with M2.

My understanding is they do not insure full on supersports, so they wouldn't for example insure a CBR600RR but they would a CBR650F, or not a Daytona 675R but they would a Street Triple RX, again not an R6, but they would an FZ6R, etc.

Just got my renewal for the bike. Went up only $14 for the year. But as I noted previously , my home insurance did go up drastically.

I'd like to know what the motorcycle manufacturers and dealers are thinking and doing about this. Insurance rate assaults like we're seeing could blow some of these guys out of the water in this province.

Don't know... maybe we need to voice our opinions through various channels?
Cause yeah, paying half the value of the bike in one year's worth of insurance (some other cases i've read, not mine) is kinda ludicrous
Save on gas, save on aggravation, save on traffic but lets fak you up with insurance

I actually posted a comment on a Kawasaki ad on their Facebook page for the ZX10R a few years ago saying they should be doing something to help riders to get affordable insurance and more people would buy bikes like that (I know insurance is one of the primary factors keeping me away from any SS, nevermind a liter bike). Their response was to delete the comment and block me from posting on their page anymore.
