I know I should just leave it be but...
peggy, I don't understand your math. you're saying no ninja 250 'plastic spoons' as they're too slow? but you're saying you don't want your license taken away so you won't go 140 like those SS guys. but the ninja 250 tops out around 160. so how is it too slow? you're worried a ninja 250 can't do what? 120? seriously?
you don't have blonde curly hair and a civic do you?
Please let me know where and when the meet point is. I'd like to bring my Vespa.
Theres isn't a whole lot wrong with what "peggy" says but rather the way he says it, Its his opinion and it should be valued(to some degree). He's referring to the fact that these 250 are rather slow in acceleration not in outright speed. It can be frustrating for a rider with a quicker bike to constantly be waiting for smaller bikes when engaging in spirited riding. In the city it doesn't matter as your constantly forced to stop at lights anyway. In general you would have to wring the neck out of a 250 or a cruiser to keep up. Its also frustrating for the 250/cruiser rider as it can feel like their barely keeping up. I spent a summer on a vn2000 and was constantly working the motor hard just to keep pace with moderate SS riding (it sucked). I can see some people not understanding what he's saying but the seasoned riders have no excuse and are just being d**ks...god forbid not fitting in huh? lol
I'm more reluctant to see this ride take place not because "peggy" is an interesting character but rather because of the attitudes towards him. If people aren't mature enough to draw the line between constructive criticism and bullying than I'm afraid they also wouldn't know when to back off in real life. I can see someone pushing/coaxing him into an uncomfortable or dangerous situation because they'd want to impress others or prove a point. Pretty sad huh, but It has been done. I even saw someone say they HATE him??? wtf is wrong with you people?
If this ride takes place, I wouldn't be surprised if we have another "its all fun and games till someone get hurt" thread.
Redrock - I respect the fact that you're sticking up for the OP, but lest you think this is just an internet pile-on, I suggest you browse through some of the other fine gems of threads that he's started on GTAM.
As for the 250 comment - 250s are only slow because it's usually tentative n00bs who are riding them. Group rides need to specify whether they are beginner friendly from the outset. Any bike in the right hands (especially 250Rs) can beat the pants off the bigger bikes in the twisties, especially when you're with SS riders who have no idea how to handle their bikes and slow to a crawl in the turns. It's a stupid comment, regardless of which poster is making it.

I agree with you here, I have seen a guy on 250cc engine with a 2up riding at 140 on 507, keeping up with 600cc and 675cc... rider skill mostly, but hey if peggy thinks 250s are slow to ride with I respect his opinion and will show up with a bigger bike... like a 1300cc or something..
That whole thing about 250s is ********. You can only go so fast in turns and a 250 has no problem reaching those speeds. Unless you're doing 200+ consistantly a 250 will have no problem keeping up in spirited rides on the street.
The thing about peggy is that his logic is contradicting and he's obnoxious. Try reading a few of his threads and you'll understand why he gets mocked constantly.
Is it wrong that when I saw the title of this thread and who started it, I jumped for joy and clapped my hands in glee like a little girl? Just sayin'.
If I came out to this group ride, part of me would fear for my life, but the other part would savor every moment of unintentional comedy.

If you're in a group with riders who are accelerating hard every time to get to the next red light that much faster, then I can see how that can be an issue.
Truthfully, it doesn't even have to be hard, even moderate acceleration can have similar effects. Don't forget riding corners involves braking in, accelerating out...250's still suffer from lack of grunt in these applications. Of course if its a sweeper and the speed is kept constant there would be little issue but I'd call that just riding...not so much "spirited" by any means.
There's no argument that a smaller displacement engine will have to work harder to keep up with big boys. I think most posters here understand the difference in acceleration between an SS and a 250.
But bottom line is that there are plenty of group rides that include many different sizes and styles of bikes that somehow manage to keep it together. There are many factors involved in whom can get left behind in these situations.
BTW, I'm not sure if you're an SS rider, but you realize that you'd also be excluded from Peggy's group ride?![]()
